If you have been keeping your eyes on the internet and are a fan of Assassin's Creed (like me) then you have most likely been exposed to countless rumors about the direction that Ubisoft's next game will take. Everything from feudal Japan to the Whitechapel district in London during the days of Jack the Ripper (Props to Joseph for hypothesizing that one) have been suggested but Ubisoft has been tight lipped about the inevitable sequel for some time now.
During a recent corporate meeting, it was revealed that "Assassin's Creed III", the next numbered entry in the long running franchise, would be hitting store shelves at the end of October 2012 but no details were revealed. It seems now that details might be on the verge of slipping out. Falling in line with what many people were starting to piece together, Assassin's Creed 3 might be heading to American Soil during the American Revolution [via Kotaku] and place players in the shoes of a pissed off Native American assassin.
If the information leaked to Kotaku by a Best Buy employee proves true, Ubisoft will be making their big announcement on March 5 (that is in 5 days!). Below you can see the full "Promotional Art" that depicts the UNCONFIRMED hero wielding a musket and a tomahawk while standing menacingly in front of the Continental flag. Enjoy!
Source: Kotaku
[Update: The story has been confirmed by Ubisoft through the of release of the official box art and an impending cover article at Game Informer]

I'm pretty excited to see where things go, and wish it's very different mechanically and tone wise. I loved AC at the beginning but after so many Assassin's Creed 2's it got pretty tiring. Sure that's a feeling most of us shared.
They mentioned on Kotaku that the support cast could be amazing. George Washington and Benjamin Franklin alone sound pretty great to me.
I'm definitely curious about this one!

It's a musket? Looks like a pistol or something. And I'm guessing he also has a bow and arrow. I wonder if he'll be a Native American.

If this guy is a native, I gotta buy this game.
I don't care if its gonna be good or bad, but I gotta get it. How will Assassin's creed pull off a Native american protagonist is beyond me. Since I know the series is very historically done, I wonder what tribe they will choose? Will they try to have side characters like Benjamin Franklin and people like Chief Sitting Bull?
As a Native myself, I don't really have high hopes for this portrayal but I'll definitely be there to see it.
But on the other hand, I really love the artwork with it. I loved the look of Assassin's creed. And To see the look of this guy with I think are moccasins and a decorated bow, and The details on his leg-wear I kind of think is very bad ass.

sooooo, what are they going to do about the parkour thing. I'm not big on American history, being from New Zealand, but I can't imagine there were that many large cities akin to Jerusalem and that during that time period. I'm most likely wrong though.

Look at the head of the tomahawk.

Far as I've been aware, they had been planning to do it during the French Revolution, something they hinted to greatly, particularly at the end of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.

Got burned out during brotherhood and didn't even play Revelations, even though I'm sure I will pick it up at some point. Honestly though, this rumor has me more excited than I have been for any game of the series. If they really have been working on it for 2+ years it could be absolutely amazing.

With its transition from the crowded streets and rooftops of Europe to the openness of America, I think this game will have to more different, mechanically, from AC2 than AC2 was from the first game. Parkour will probably play less of an important role, and maybe they'll instead focus on larger battles, a sort of RTS, kind of like Revelations tried with the Assassin Dens.

So they seriously went with the American Revolution? Not the French Revolution, which they made no small reference to at the end of Brotherhood and have hinted to very highly until this point. No, the American one. But, its an election year and we have to draw in the patriot demographic. They even made the map set in France for the Brotherhood multiplayer. They had zero reason to do that, it had nothing to do with the game's storyline thus far, so why include it unless it was an indicator for the future?

People on horses, 5 story buildings, guns with low rate of fire and swords. Wow what a great change of gameplay.

can't wait to stab some americans in tha face!
seriously tho, this has me excited, new time period, protagonist and a big improvement (well it has to be considering they've spent two-three years on it)
can't wait to see more news =)

Sounds...pretty good actually. Though I think they'll need to do some work in order to diversify the enviroments. Most mid 18th century american all kinda looked the same...
