Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning sports a pretty generic title, even for a fantasy RPG, but despite all that, the game itself looks promising. With several big names tied to the project including Todd McFarlane and Ken Rolston (Lead Designer of Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion), Reckoning sure seems like it might have what it takes to leave a lasting impression. In case you missed the trailer from this year's E3, take a gander!

As I mentioned during yesterday's 2011 Award Show recording, it seems that a demo of the upcoming RPG will be hitting XBox Live on January 17. All of this is according to that weird little spokesperson for Xbox, Major Nelson, but I can't think of a reason why he would tell us lies. If this proves true, take the opportunity to get some hands on time with one of the year's first big RPG's! In the meantime, check out the latest video from the developers detailing the skills and crafting system.

I'm not very excited. Not only does it look generic, the 2nd video explained stuff I already did in Alpha Protocol, Elder Scrolls 1-4, Vagrant Story, and tons of other RPGS that involved these mechanics. I'll take a pass on this one.

So.. I barely know a thing about this game, and I've ignored it for quite a while, but I'm seeing a lot of similarities between this and World of WarCraft. And everything that can be ruled out from that comparison, seems to take inspiration from Bethesda RPGs. That said, this game looks like an MMO. Crazy..

On a related note, check out Brad's awkward question in the Q & A panel for the game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qOvyiG3OZR4&feature=relmfu (2:40)

    This game looks sweet!

EA is also doing some cross content between Reckoning and Mass Effect 3. Having N7 armor and omniblades in Reckoning, while fantasy-esque armor and a chakram launcher appear in ME3 reminds me of the cross-content with ME2 and Dragon Age. Still, it is an interesting marketing concept to bolster interest in Reckoning, while giving away free goodies for playing the demos for both games. I'm interested in Reckoning, but willing to wait until the price takes a bit of a nose dive.

Looks pretty interesting. Reminiscent of Fable, but with deeper RPG aspects. Is the demo exclusive to 360?

That skills and crafting work looks complicated. I like this.
