In mid February, I will be shelling out my hard-earned cash for Sony's new bite sized powerhouse, the Playstation Vita. Unlike the sub-par launch of the Nintendo 3DS last year, the Vita seems poised to launch at an attractive price point with a bevy of top-notch features and a stellar software lineup. At launch, there are numerous titles that should be considered no-brainers to the gaming populace. Uncharted: Golden Abyss will be my first purchase of course but titles like Lumines, Sound Shapes, Wipeout, and Hot Shots Golf make this an enticing purchase. However, in the months followings the launch there are a number of additional titles that should be of interest to early adopters. One such title is Gravity Rush, a game that officially stands atop my list of most anticipated Vita titles. Check out the trailer now:
Aside from the obvious graphical and storytelling appeal, Gravity Rush takes a page from the books of other popular puzzle based action games like Portal and builds the world around that. Interaction through the world and with the puzzles within are designed around the core mechanic of manipulating gravity in real-time. As gravity changes, your character will be able to fly around the environment at break neck speed.
While this gameplay mechanic is intriguing by itself, the real excitement stems from the implementation of the new Vita controls. Players will be able to manipulate gravity using the gyroscope and the touch pad on the back of the device. Combine that with crisp, colorful visuals and I think the Vita has another strong title on its hands. With the Vita launch quickly approaching, we are poised to measure the response to another high-profile handheld device. Can the Vita outperform the 3DS launch numbers despite sharing the same original price point? I have a feeling that the feature list and the impressive launch lineup suggests that it might have a fighting chance. In the meantime, here are a few screenshots to wet your whistle.
The big question remains: How many people plan to be early adopters of the Playstation Vita and how many of those plan to pick up Gravity Rush when the game launches in May of this year?

Right now this game stands as the reason I want a Vita. The launch window is impressive enough, but this is the game that I think will pull people to the Vita. The game play is different, the style is intriguing and the game itself represents the types of games that make handheld consoles worthwhile and viable. It's not a shrunken down version of a triple A title. It is something different and something you can only get on the Vita.
As for purchasing or not purchasing, that all depends on my income (or lack there of) at the time. If I do end up owning a Vita, Gravity Rush is definitely going to be among the first games I add to the library.

I remember the first time I saw Gravity Rush and I thought it looked amazing as a vita game. Then I learned more about the game mechanics and this game should be on peoples radar. Its a must buy.

All signs point to the Vita having a much better launch than the 3DS. The software lineup alone should entice alot of people to get this awesome piece of hardware.
Unfortunately for me, I don't see myself buying enough software to justify getting a Vita. I probably won't get one at launch, but I'll surely be keeping my eyes on the Vita post-launch.

I've been pretty stoked for Gravity Daze for a while now. I'm probably going to get the game on launch day, but I won't get a vita for a few months after.

I was already excited about Gravity Daze since it was featured in Trailer Talk. I do want a Vita, but it'll be a while before I get one. When I do get a vita, I definetly will get this game.

Thanks for the article Nick! Saw a tiny tiny tiny preview of this in a UK Playstation mag, & I wanted to know more..
Really excited for it now, thank god I've ordered a Vita! I still can't quite get my head around having a back touch screen, so I'm looking forward to trying to use it xD But if the Vita's controls are leading to games like this, I'm really happy.
(Uncharted is my first purchase too, but definitely looking forward to the Vita's catalogue.)
