The year ahead is looking great and my bank account is already grimacing in fear as it clearly remembers the gouging injuries it sustained this past November.  Though many of us are no doubt excited by such triple-A titles as Mass Effect 3 as Bioshock Infinite its the lesser known titles like Operation Raccoon City that deserve more attention than they'll get in the end.  Case in point, this is why I have been pushing this great looking (and playing) fresh take on the Resident Evil series.

Of particular interest to me is the US special forces that have a prominent appearance in the opening cinematic.  They've been shown in the game as playable but they've never been really detailed as to personalities and such.  If they have as much prominence in-game as they do in this opening then I have to speculate whether they actually have their own mode.

Will the game be scary despite being a third-person shooter?  We'll find out this March when I review the game.

I'm expecting a Left 4 Dead type of experience mixed with a little bit of Borderlands.

    Very excited for this game.

Looks very interesting. I have waited a very long time for a new and fresh Resident Evil and this definitely looks like it will be great. Hoping more people will get this game so I can play in groups!

The trailer looks very nice. Although I'm wondering, it looks like Umbrella gets all the cool toys, at least from the trailer. :/

Looks great to me. My wallet is weeping already and I haven't even considered the "must buy" games of 2012.

I wasn't super impressed by the E3 demo but this cinematic did a pretty good job of capturing some of the essence of classic Resident Evil. Perhaps I will find time for this in 2012 as well. Somewhere in between Max Payne 3 and Mass Effect 3...

"One of the most intriguing parts of Operation Raccoon City is the risk of infection. Upon being attacked, players can contract the T-Virus. The infection can be curbed with an anti-virus, but letting the corruption ride out has some unexpected advantages. When you become completely infected zombies ignore you, allowing you to charge the enemy's position head on. Because you're technically dead, you benefit from temporary invulnerability, allowing you to wreak havoc until the AI kicks in and turns you into an undead liability. Losing control of your zombified character means your former teammates can easily mistake you for your former self, opening them up to attack and further infection. A sympathetic headshot from a comrade is the only cure, and results in a quicker spawn time."

Took this quote from an article in Game Informer. Well, that sounds cool, doesn't it? Who hasn't wondered what really happens behind that 'Game Over' screen. I mean, it's that threat of constant, imminent danger that keeps players going. Honestly, the atmosphere created from this fact that defines the game entirely.

But wait.. what's that last part?

"A sympathetic headshot from a comrade is the only cure, and results in a quicker spawn time."

    Something's still not right...

"...results in a quicker spawn time."

    Wait... wait, what.

    "...spawn time."

Might as well throw the fundamentals Resident Evil established decades ago right out the window, because suddenly, there's no penalty for death. It's pretty hard to find the positive side for this game. You know, mostly because this game is already a travesty unfit to tread the same earth as past entries to the Resident Evil franchise.
