New RE: Operation Raccoon City Trailer Shows Off Heroes Mode

In what is probably going to be one of the most overlooked AAA titles of next year, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will arrive March 20th of next year and Capcom has seen to give optimistic fans a like gift for the holidays by releasing a new multiplayer trailer.  This new mode, entitled Heroes, allows players to take on the role of franchise characters that were in Raccoon City during the outbreak such as Leon Kennedy and Jill Valentine and has them face off against an enemy team composed of Umbrella villains like Hunk and Nikolai Ginovaef.  There doesn't seem to be any mention of character-specific weapons but that might not be the case for unique abilities such as Hunk's ability to briefly turn invisible.

For me it was one of my more surprising finds of E3 2011 with gameplay that felt both interesting as well as surprisingly intense.  Facing off against enemy combatants is one thing but when you also have charging zombies, lickers, and hunters in the mix you are in for a potentially rough time.  For those who missed it you should check out the story trailer that was released on Halloween.

In addition, Capcom will be offering a collector's edition that include a steelbook case, two sewing patches, and eight bonus weapons for an additional $10.  Customers who preorder it at Gamestop, Best Buy or Amazon can also get a set of alternate costumes for the story mode's Umbrella strike team members.

Keep this game in mind.  It probably won't do nearly as well as its March competitors, what with Mass Effect 3, Max Payne 3, XCOM and Ghost Recon Future Soldier releasing shortly before I think fans might be pleasantly surprised by this one.
