Aside from making some of the industries most treasured titles, Level-5 has always made my list of favorite developers/publishers because they almost always bring their titles abroad. Ni No Kuni, the highly anticipated cross-over between Level-5 and Studio Ghibli has finally been confirmed for a western release and the publisher chose their own convention, Level-5 World, to debut a new trailer for the game. Take a look!
This game look absolutely stunning, predominantly thanks to the art direction of Studio Ghibli. In addition to that, the game looks to be one of the first console RPG's in awhile to harken back to the days of traversing an over world map! Combine that with a fast paced, action RPG system and some standard Ghibli charm and I just might ready to like JRPGs again.
We have discussed this on the podcast several times and I can't help but feel that this game is doomed to never find an audience in the west. The game will probably do ok thanks to the die hard Studio Ghibli fans but with a name like Ni No Kuni, the chances of the average western gamer picking this game up is pretty slim. With that said, I applaud Level-5 for being true to their fans and taking the time to bring this game outside the confines of Japan. The game is slated for release in the west in early 2012.

my excitement for this game. Its as if it has been "Spirited Away". All stupid jokes aside, this game looks really neat. I hope there is a healthy amount of secrets since I want to explore the crap out of this game. Since Symphony of the Night & Vagrant Story I have been a fan of a JRPG's monster lore so I hope there's some cool looking creatures.

I am really glad it is officially coming to the States, the game looks so good. I am a little puzzled as to how the combat will work. At first the only videos I saw were of the creatures fighting, but now I see the people fighting as well. I hope that is done in an appropriate way, and of course I hope the translation is done well. Totally pumped for some Ni No Kini: Awesome Alteration!

Right now this is a wait and see title for me. While I gotta say I am dying for something that gives just a bit of that Dark Cloud charm I just don't feel like I know what to expect, that may have to do with the fact I actually am not a huge fan of the art style (Though some of the enemies I saw I did like) and I hope the trailer's song isn't an indication of the music direction for the game because I feel orchestrated pieces can come off as bland in a game setting if they don't have that "hook". Though at the same time just from the trailer it seems there will be tons to do in this game.

I don't mean to be "that guy", but it's been reported that Namco Bandai is actually the company who will be publishing this in the west, not Level 5. >_<
That said, Ni No Kuni looks wonderful. 2012 is shaping up to be a great year for RPG lovers like myself, and I find it quite awesome.

This game looks glorious. I really don't think I can say any more than that. I hope the sense of adventure and wonder portrayed in this trailer is as abundant in the actual game play. This is catching up to The Last Guardian on my list of most anticipated titles.

I've loved Studio Ghibli for many a moon. Seeing as how this game seems to be harnessing the flow and adventure of the more old-school jrpgs, I'm even more stoked. But yeah, very few are actually going to buy this game. Totoro is one of the best movies ever created by the way.

Sounds great! Not really into JRPGs anymore but this game has caught my interest. I probably won't pick it up day one, but should reviews be positive I'll have to put it on my "I will get this eventually" list.

My japanese sucks but the main kid with brown hair is a duke? Also, "Ni no Kuni" with those kanji I think means "Land(country) of Two".

i don't know if it's "doomed to never find an audience in the west." i think with the relatively recent success with studio ghibli and ponyo, i think NiNo Kuni might find a larger audience in the west that you would anticipate.
