Tokyo Game Show 2011

Day one of the Tokyo Game Show has come and gone and while many of the major announcements were handed down yesterday by Sony, Nintendo, and SquareEnix there's still plenty to learn today.  Capcom had a strong showing all around so let's get right to it.

    • For starters, Capcom revealed a new trailer for Street Fighter X Tekken that shows the game's Pandora mode.  Pandora, tying into the game's story, allows the player to sacrifice their partner should they be below 25% health and in turn gain an infinite EX meter for eight seconds.  The trailer also detailed the game's suite of online modes which allow for 2v2 team combat as well as 2vAI.

    • Capcom's assault on TGS only began there as they showed off a new trailer for Devil May Cry which you can watch here.
    • Capcom revealed that Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 will contain reversible cover art which you can see below.

    • Capcom gave a thirty minute demonstration of Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor to the press but didn't allow any photography that I can find.  The presentation was a live demonstration of the same level shown in the game's Gamescom 2011 trailer which I've included below.  I personally can't wait to see the thing in real life as I love this series and the idea of going from an 80 button controller to a Kinect title still boggles my mind.

    • Dragon's Dogma, Capcom's third person fantasy brawler set for release in the first quarter of 2012, received a new trailer.

    • Capcom's day didn't end on a high note however as it did not announce a PS Vita version of Monster Hunter 4.  When reached for comment about there not being a Vita version while the 3DS gets one, Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano was quoted as saying "You'll have to ask Capcom about that."
    • Shifting away from Capcom, Microsoft announced that Project Draco, the on-rails Kinect shooter that many say is the spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon, will arrive on the Xbox Live Arcade in 2012.
    • On the other side of the fighting genre Bandai Namco showed off a new trailer for Soul Calibur 5.

    • SquareEnix had one more announcement hidden away.  Final Fantasy XIII-2 is set to be released in North America on January 31, 2012 followed by a European release on February 14.  The game will see a limited edition Playstation 3 bundle for Japan when it releases there on December 15.  No NA or European version of the bundle has been announced nor is there an Xbox 360 bundle.
    • Finally, Grasshopper Manufacture revealed a new trailer for Lollipop Chainsaw, this time with a lot more gameplay footage.  Unfortunately there isn't an HD version of the trailer available just yet.  Is it me or does this game just look like a more refined version of Onnechanbara?

Hopefully we'll have more coverage tomorrow.

I wasn't too excited for Lolipop Chainsaw. But now I feel much better about the game now seeing that gameplay looks a lot better than I tried to piece together from the first trailer. Some of the new characters in SC5 seem to be replacing others or using the same styles as in previous titles. Im surprised to see Rolento and Heihachi in the Streetfighter X Tekken.
