If you are a Twisted Metal fan like myself, you were probably crushed when you heard the new Twisted Metal was delayed until next year. But considering it was slated for release the same day as Rage and Dark Souls, maybe it was a good business decision to delay the game. Well, good news for Twisted Metal fans -- you will still be able to get your car combat fix on October 4th, Twisted Metal's original release date. Check out this car combat multiplayer footage from Rage. The action starts at about minute 4:15 in the first video.

While this certainly isn't filled with the wacky vehicles, weapons, and stages of a good Twisted Metal game, Rage's multiplayer looks like it could still be a lot of fun. My only worry is the realistic physics-based driving model of the vehicles in a mode like this. I never enjoyed Viglante 8 as much as Twisted Metal because the cars drove too realistically. They felt sluggish and I often found myself slowly backing up to turn around, or hitting a bump and toppling over. It just seemed like a distraction from the real focus of blast'n fools. But I love car combat, and this mode certainly has my interest piqued.

That looks realistic? What it looks like is id Software's attempt at vehicular insanity, and it looks almost exactly like Twisted Metal. And yet, for some reason, I don't feel as interested in this as I do for Twisted Metal's footage. Maybe it's the crappy amateur quality of the footage here, but the levels just don't look like they're too complex. It seems like a desert race track that lets you smash cars together (just like Hot Wheels, albeit more gunfire and explosions).

Looks pretty good. I wish more multiplayer modes would have more depth beyond deathmatch and....team deathmatch sometimes

This looks insane! Not only will it be a super awesome fps rpg game, but to throw in a very solid looking car combat twist into it, GENIUS!

Usually I hate unrealistic driving mechanics, but I have to agree that in car combat it is almost a necessity. I still love Vigilante 8, though.

ALRIGHT! Maybe this can be the Twisted Metal substitute us 360 owners have been waiting for. Time to spread this shit word-of-mouth.

Eh, I'll get my Twisted Metal fix with the previous titles in it's series. Rage hasn't done anything to appeal to me at all, I'm beyond done with post-apocalyptic/desert IPs.

Too much brown for my tastes.

I'm really not even interested in taking this game online so I personally will just wait for Twisted Metal. To be honest I don't think I will have the money for either to begin with...

Uggh... I wish I could get this game on release day, but with the combination of school and money I can only get a few of the many games coming out this fall. I'll definitely get it sometime in the future.
