When Final Fantasy: Theatrhythm was first announced, I got genuinely excited. A music and rhythm game that channels the nostalgia of old Final Fantasy games seemed seems so obvious, I'm surprised it took this long to be made. And with its Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents inspired input method cleverly used in RPG styled scenarios, Theatryhthm has sky-rocketed to the top of my very short list of reasons to buy a Nintendo 3DS. But now there is this trailer...

I have no idea why the trailer starts with gameplay without Final Fantasy music playing in the background. I'm hoping this was just a tutorial part -- but why would they feature multiple sections of it in a trailer? Now the fight with Ultros was more what I was expecting. One of the most iconic Final Fantasy bosses ever rhythmically massacred to one of the greatest boss themes ever? This is exactly what I'm looking for with a game like this. Then there was the not so hot vocal track. The only vocals I need in my Final Fantasy music game are the beautiful synth sounds coming from Celes in the better-be-included Final Fantasy 6 opera house scene.

Despite my mixed feelings on the trailer, I'm still very much giddy that this game is being made. I trust Indieszero, the team behind Retro Game Challenge and Electroplankton, to help fill the Ouendan shaped hole in my life. Now give me Limit Breaks during badass solos, stupid long summon sequences, and a secret unlockable Triple Triad mode. Ok, not holding my breath on that last one. The game is set to release this year in Japan. But we have to fucking pray for release, as Nintendo decided to region lock the fucking 3DS. Wonderful.

Well, the 3DS was hacked on (I think) the first day of release. So if you ever need to import something, it shouldn't be a big hassle to Souljah Brad it.

I really hope we get this game over here, I love the idea of it!
To be honest I'll buy anything with Uematsu's music in though.

Huh. That's interesting. I totally missed this game's announcement, but I'm glad the 3DS is getting something worthwhile that isn't a remake of a classic that we've all played to death already.

God dammit.. At first I was rather negative when I heard the announcement of a rhythmic based Final Fantasy yet at the beginning of the trailer I suddenly felt completely different and then the Final Fantasy 8/13 songs were brought in and I suddenly felt like I needed to have the game.. Why is it that Final Fantasy trailers always end up persuading me into buying the product no matter how silly it sounds?

It looks kinda cheesy, but I can ignore that because I can see the charm in this game. Although it seems that the adventure is just going to unfold via going through the playlist than it being open world adventure. I probably though a little too broad with this project, but it looks nice.

I really don't know what to make of this yet. The battle scene seemed like it would be fun to play, but the walking levels and the FF8 dance at the end seemed incredibly boring to me.

Looks pretty cool, but idk, for some reason I really don't like how those sprites look. Their faces look very.... empty.

I sure hope that there are not a whole lot of those vocals included other than the synth ones. Well I'm interested in the soundtracks they chose for the game. I hope dancing mad is in there :P.

Either this is the most elaborate joke ever pulled, or an actually fun looking game. I am shocked, I really am. But as you said Brad, this has all the hallmarks of a Japanese game that we never see the light of, because I doubt there are many people wanting to buy another 3DS to play it

Why even call it a final fantasy game?
