Originally announced back in 2008 Gearbox's Aliens: Colonial Marines has maintained a rather low profile. With only a meager handful of screenshots and rumors of cancellation there were many who believed the game would never see the light of day. This year Gearbox wants to prove to everyone that Aliens: Colonial Marines is still alive and kicking. In this 11 minute gameplay video Gearbox president Randy Pitchford walks us through a portion of one of the games campaign missions.
In what is shown Gearbox seems to capture the Alien's series dark and claustrophobic environments well enough. As heavily scripted as it may be I also quite enjoyed the mass confusion that occurs when aliens overrun the marines. Pitchford also showed off the game's 4 player drop-in drop-out coop, a feature I'm looking forward to the most.
What I wasn't so hot on is how some of the gameplay and character presentation echoed Gearbox's Duke Nukem Forever. The player character flips off an ally for no real reason, you fight an alien up close in a quick sequence similar to the executions in Duke Nukem, and an ally NPC strokes your ego after you kill it. Are these kinds of things still funny or interesting? These moments in the video hint that at some level a few of the ideas formed during Duke Nukem Forever's development are also pumping through Aliens: Colonial Marines. It's an unnerving thought but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now.
Check out the video here and be sure to share your thoughts in the comments.

damn, one part they shot the wall like 5 times and there are turrets doing the turret sequences for you. Seeing the gameplay now, it kinda reminds me of Duke Nukem Forever and gameplay is just a lot of shooting. even though it has a cool atmosphere, im not really down for this game.

Was anyone else annoyed by Pitchford throwing Aliens references?
Yes, you saw the Aliens. So did we. We get it!
This seems close to Left 4 Dead in a sence that you defend a position from a horde to a certain point (which in this game seems to be cinematic scene/scripted event) and then advance.

Wow... this is the exact demonstration that I saw at E3 and PAX this year... and here I was hoping for something new.

I like the lack of HUD

Looks really mediocre. There isnt any core moment that felt like definite gameplay.

While not stellar this still captures the movie well. As far as the commentary, I needed the my memory jogged. I haven't seen anything to do with Aliens in years. The lack of HUD is great, adding to the stress. The gunplay needs work. The shotgun impact is nonexistent. Looks good for now.

It looks alright, but too linear. I'm holding out hope for now...

These are the first 10 minutes of the game. Pretty sure we can't call it linear yet. Personally I like it a lot. I think the game has that Aliens feel. Don't care about scripted events as well. Some of the best games out there use scripted events (HL, Dead Space...). I'm looking forward to this one.

I wasn't super excited about this before, now that i know Dukiness has seeped into it, it may not even be worth renting
