Epic Mickey 2 Box Art

Last year's Epic Mickey was THE platformer to get on the Wii whose name didn't involve the name "Mario."  I've been criticized in the past for making anti-Wii statements such as that it is harder to find a good game on the system than trying to beat a man to death with a wiffle bat but, in the end, there are some valid reasons to actually owning the system and actually bringing it out of the closet at Christmas.  The truth is though that there are quite a few non-Nintedo owned properties that are gems on the Wii and Epic Mickey certainly is one.  As such, it shouldn't come as a surprise that Warren Spector and his team at Junction Point Studios are working on a sequel.

Though Epic Mickey 2 hasn't been officially announced yet a Destructoid reader was invited to take part in a survey regarding the game.  The survey, amongst other things, as the reader to select their preferred box art (seen in the image above).  The art above indicates that it continues on the story of the first game despite Mickey being locked out of entry into the Wasteland.  The description in the image below, goes on to state that the game is destined for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii.  It also states that the game will support cooperative play with the second player taking on the role of Oswald who can wield electrical attacks to fight or befriend the various enemies in the world.

Judging by the marketing description I think it is a fairly obvious supposition that the game will be motion-controlled on all three platforms though I question the functionality Junction Point would be able to put into the Kinect.  The Wii and Playstation 3's motion controls are almost identical in design and scope but the Kinect's camera-only controls makes me think that, unless this is one of the first games to use both controller and Kinect, that there won't be full motion control for that platform.  Despite that, given the multiplatform nature of Epic Mickey 2, this is a great opportunity for players who don't own a Wii to experience one of the most entertaining games of last year.

Expect an announcement soon, possibly at next month's Tokyo Game Show.  If not there then we may just have to wait until E3 2012 where it isn't too much of a stretch to imagine an on-stage presentation.

I tried the first one, didn't really do it for me. If the game shows me something new that can appeal to me, ill give it a chance.

Personally, even with all of its problems, I thought Epic Mickey was a great game. But, it certainly wasn't perfect. But, it made me very excited for a sequel with improved gameplay, and a non-crappy camera. So, this news makes my pants happy.

I've heard disappointing things about Epic Mickey, so I've skipped over it whenever I found myself at the local game store. Not sure if I'll be giving this sequel a shot.

I didn't think it did well enough to warrant a sequel

Good move making it available for the 360 & PS3 although, I want nothing to do with motion controls.

Epic Mickey looked cool, but wiith all the big blockbuster games coming out lately, it fell behind on my list. I doubt I'll ever play it now. Same can probably be said about the sequel.

Never got round to picking up the first one but I always did fancy it. It's pretty damn cheap now actually, so I might just go and do that..

With this one, as long as co-op is just an option, and it's a solid single-player game, it might be worth a look-in.

Wasn't interested in the first one, not interested in this one either. I didn't think the first one even sold that well.

It has great art design, and hopefully the coop can add something to the game besides just platforming.

Thanks for this news, co-op is exciting, but I hope any Move support is optional.

If this game will be released for the Xbox 360 and PS3, then they better make one for the Wii U too. Because the Wii U will be released this year. Actually I think it would be better first to make a remake of the original game for the Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii U before they start to create this sequel.
