Snailiad is a 2D platform-adventure, “Metroidvania”-style, game where the player controlled character is, as the name puns, a snail. It has a full on grid map with different distinct sections, hidden items to find, secrets to discover, and new abilities that grant access to areas previously inaccessible. Snailiad does have some issues though: the controls feel a little awkward, especially after gaining a new ability that allows gravity to be influenced; the difficulty spikes a ton towards the end, notably so at a squarish boss; and the combat is shallow in systems and situation design, though it occasionally has its moments when utilizing unique snail qualities such as sticking to walls. Even with these problems, the very second a secluded section's secret is found, issues don’t matter; there is just a strong desire to discover more. Until, of course, the secrets begin to dry up and all that remains are its problems. Then it is realized: Snailiad isn’t that great, but the formula, the “Metroidvania”-style discovery, is.

Man, why is it that the style of metroidvania has gone out, those games are so great but people live in a world in which those styles of 2 bit games are obsolet.
This is no less evident then in the recent Castlevania games, I would love to see castlevania do a 3d sidescrolling medroidvania like shadow complex, but no, they have to make big budget action advebture games in order for them to sell.

I got kind of lost, so I gave up for now. I liked where it was going though. Reminds me of the Spider Ball from Metroid 2. :P
