After recording and producing this award winning podcast for more than 3 years, we have finally gotten serious about improving the audio quality. Thanks to our new recording equipment, you should notice a dramatic improvement in the audio quality on the show each week. However, we still need to hear any suggestions that you have to help us improve the show over the course of the next few weeks. Is Jack too quiet? Is the audio too loud? Is Brad dumb? No suggestion is irrelevant so please blow up the comments this week with your thoughts! O yeah and we talk about VIDEO GAMES! For like.... 2 hours!

Damn! The audio quality is much better and cleaner

That is some sexy audio. If the 4player minute music made a comeback I would be a happy man :)
Great Show!

Dat Audio

I feel like you all are sitting on my lap and whisper into my ear.
13 years, 3 months ago
Jack is too quiet >:D
But really Jack provides some great thoughts! Would love to hear em more!
13 years, 3 months ago
It is great that you have improved the quality, but you sound, and I really don't know how to explain it better, a little off. Maybe it is the improved quality that is just messing with my mind, or the room your in, or the lack of any background noises. I don't know. What I do know is that you delivered another superb podcast anyways! Keep up the awesome work.
Also, I haven't listened to your two or three last podcasts so I don't know if you are still doing it, but I liked it better when Brad was reading the viewer questions. Nothing against you, Nick, but it just felt better when you had different roles, Nick is the host, David does the community, and Brad does the viewer questions and mocking of chatters. This is just my personal opinion though.

A new show with a huge improvement on audio?
What a top off to an evening!
13 years, 3 months ago
Pretty good show this week, guys. As for the audio, you guys are ALWAYS quiet as shit on my PC. I have to turn the volume up all the way every week. With that said, it got to where I couldn't make out a fair amount of what you were saying during the 4player minute even with that. There was less static in the background, I believe, but the echo was still there (even though it was reduced to a certain degree).
13 years, 3 months ago
Everything sounds good. There's no static, but the voices sound kind of skype-like compared to the live feed which sounds a lot better. You guys are getting warm.
13 years, 3 months ago
I think the articles could be a bit more organized, like categories or something.
13 years, 3 months ago
Great show but as Boomstick_Chameleon said, the volume always seems really low, I have to crank my PC speakers up much higher than normal listening levels to get a reasonable volume.
Also the 'UUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHH's disturbed me... then gave me an erection.
13 years, 3 months ago
holy balls that is so fucking awesome... especially loved the intro! is that layton inspired?
13 years, 3 months ago
The audio definitely was better. The only small nitpick is that there seemed to be a bit of reverb, maybe from the walls? It sort of sounded like people were further away than the were. Maybe try it with a lower overall recording volume and people closer to their mics?
13 years, 3 months ago
Sounds great! But like others have said the audio is pretty low otherwise amazing show guys.
13 years, 3 months ago
Yea, modern games don't want you to miss out on things, and even now I can just look up a SOTN faq, making secrets unnecessary these days. I'd prefer if I accidentally did a secret move that they put it somewhere in the menu so I can do it again kind of thing rather than flailing like an idiot, while the enemy is staring at me wondering if he should hit me or not.
13 years, 3 months ago
i hope this new this new audio setup will help hear you because usually i have to turn my volume all the way up to hear you.

When the universe finally ends, only an entity made physically of everything in existence crushed to a pinhead Is there. To try comfit the billions of people that it now contains a collective decision is made for the entity to emulate 4 people discussing video games. With no other things, no colour, no time, no Fridges or AC the perfect capture of a moment is created.
Another decision is made for the entity sacrifice all of its now meaningless power to create a wormhole to send the moment back in time, in hopes it will change the fate of time...
Sounds good. Brad and Nolan are a bit louder then every one else
13 years, 3 months ago
It was like somebody had replaced my earphones and put two pieces of cake in my ears
13 years, 3 months ago
Been a while since i had seen the show on the feed, good progress!
13 years, 3 months ago
That's some smooooooth jazz. The sound quality is way better, though you should get into the habit of staying the same distance away from the mics when you calibrated it for the sound test (Jack gets quiet at times since he leans back). The static/noise is still present but only when people talk (which I think is an artifact of using noise cancellation). With some tweaking I'm sure you guys can get it crystal clear.
13 years, 3 months ago
I think it would help to separate everyone's voice. Everyone is all cluttered to the center in the mix. So maybe pan Nick's voice slightly to the left channel, brad in the center, jack on the right.....you know? just a thought.
13 years, 3 months ago
Damn Nolan.. dont make fun of the shit going on here in London.
13 years, 3 months ago
For music of the week, I'm gonna guess Braid.
13 years, 3 months ago
I honestly didn't notice any terrible problems with the sound the way it was, so I can't say this is loads better... but it sounds great! And when I was listening on the feed the other night it *did* sound excellent!
13 years, 3 months ago
Audio is great guys. At some parts I can kinda hear a muffled static sound when you guys are talking but other than that it sounds great.
13 years, 3 months ago
intro good
13 years, 3 months ago
Oh man. When Brad said "Oh, that's a good one too! ... Google maps is the best." and everyone fell silent, I burst out laughing. That's exactly what I thought of too.
Good show. I know it was your first time with the new recording equipment, but it is noticeable at certain parts of the show when someone is leaning back in their chair and not talking into the mic. But even that is not really a big deal, I just had to turn up my headphones a little so I didn't miss anything.
13 years, 3 months ago
Sound was a good improvement. The content was excellent as always :)
13 years, 3 months ago
shit sounds good
don't think we're going to reach that goal nolan
13 years, 3 months ago
Great cast, I really want to know where the music comes from.
13 years, 3 months ago
Nice sound!
13 years, 3 months ago
Sound is much cleaner! So clean that moments of silence are really obvious, haha. I also didn't have to raise my volume as much as usual, though the volume did fluctuate quite a bit; might've been, like the others said, related to who was speaking. Sometimes it sounded like people were mumbling/whispering. Also, the new intro music is amazing! And I have no idea what the intermission music is, but it sounds good. :(
I'm trying to finish Deus Ex before Aug. 23 as well... I'm really enjoying it, but I have a habit of just wandering around.
I agree with Nolan's Fuck You... Politics/government, stocks, riots, people up high and down low and in between. Fuck it!
13 years, 3 months ago
the audio was really good, but i think what needs to be worked on is sticking to the topic and moving the conversation along.....i mean 5 minutes for intro....it wasnt until 23 minutes to finish up bayonetta....and somewhere in there battleship, the office, and games of throne was mentioned in there for some odd reason...wanna make it better? I suggest skipping chatter for the week when david is gone.....that will cut down like 10 minutes of "everyone wins......."
13 years, 3 months ago
Great!! sounds much better
13 years, 3 months ago
Sound quality was really great! :) good investment, looking forward to next week! :)
13 years, 3 months ago
Sounds better but David is missed. Hopefully on the next one?
13 years, 3 months ago
Looking forward to listen to this podcast tomorrow (today?) with the new audio, it should be quite interesting.

I applaud you guys for the audio upgrade! Keep up the good work!
13 years, 3 months ago
The audio is sounding real good.. It's nice to see the improvements rolling out. Keep it up, guys!
13 years, 3 months ago
As everyone else said, great audio quality. Thanks for putting so much time and effort into this. We can't express to you enough how much we appreciate it.
13 years, 3 months ago
The music sounds like something from Catherine.
Audio levels are fine for me, but I keep all of my sound settings maxed out anyway, and only turn things down when they're too loud. I didn't notice any weird quirks or problems with the audio. There is some slight artifcating from the noise removal, but that's pretty much unavoidable, and not really noticeable if you're not listening to it (and I prefer a little artificating to a lot of noise).

Hey Nick and other 4PP podcasters, I have a question.
Which pony would you guys fuck?
13 years, 3 months ago
Good show guys, but ZIMMY'S BEING A FAGGOT GET TO IT
13 years, 3 months ago
This was a very good podcast. I couldn't believe when it was over. I was sad to know that your podcasts were dunn for the week.
Catch you next week.

I really enjoyed this cast, gentlemen! good stuff all around! There was a bit of an echo from the walls or something, but it was an excellent sounding show!

im contributing on the 100 comments!
btw awesome audio

Not sure if this comment will be read since this post has been here for a while and there are lots of comments on it, but I really think that setting goals for the community is an even better way to get comments on blog posts without the need to just ask/yell at people to do it.
A cool feature would be a "widget" on the right hand side of the site, kind of like the your way wednesday poll, that tracks how many comments have been left this week, and how many more are needed to reach a goal. Then reward the community if we reach that goal, maybe with a special broadcast on a Saturday night or something. Or make a blog post or new section in the podcast for "Commenter of the Week".
Reward the people leaving comments instead of punishing those who don't.

Great new audio, Brad's raised voice actually made me jump from across the room! I was upstairs grabbing a drink and I could still hear as though you guys were actually sitting in my basement. Really enjoying this and looking forward to more improvements in the future.
13 years, 3 months ago
Just listened to the show tonight, using headphones. I enjoy the new audio, though at times you seem distant and far away. I'll turn it up and then sometime later someone yells or there's a yelling match. I've come to expect(and love) this, but with the new audio it causes some minor ear bleeding. It's probably something ya'll can fix in the future as you mess the settings. Overall, great show as usual and the "Unnnnhh" made me laugh so much I got weird looks from a co-worker.
Also, I miss David too, Nick.
13 years, 3 months ago
Liking the classy opening music :P
Audio quality is much improved which is great for you guys...Brad's screams are even louder now though which I can't say is necessarily a good thing.
Keep doing what you're doing guys - love me some 4pp.
13 years, 3 months ago
I'm digging the improved audio. Red hot kick!
13 years, 3 months ago
The audio is a lot better than it was before.
13 years, 3 months ago
I didn't think the audio was bad before, but there's definitely an improvement. Only problem is when the voices fade away a bit, I might have to turn up the audio, which also lets me hear the gain. Still, the best sounding podcast yet, keep up the awesome work.
13 years, 3 months ago
heres your comment nolan, nick needs to speak up =/. o yeah and skyrim, id cut my legs off if that was the price for a skyrim edition, as stupid as that is, that how i feel.
13 years, 3 months ago
I'm not sure if its my iPod or earphones, but the sound quality sounds the same. Then again, the audio quality from before was fine. My only problem was the fading voices. Overall, it was a great podcast even with that minor problem, keep up the great job guys.
13 years, 3 months ago
audio sounds better but voices fade away sometimes so i have to turn up the volume. The music on breaks is always really loud compared to your voices so every break i have to turn the volume down.
13 years, 3 months ago
Sounded great on the feed and sounds even better as the podcast.
Great podcast as always!
13 years, 3 months ago
Didn't really like how the intro. and ending music was much louder than the actual podcast. I had to adjust the volume just because of that. Didn't heard any noise so that is great. Maybe you can up the sound and the noise would still be not an issue.
As for the podcast...another insightful collection of impressions and thoughts.
Awesome podcast, dudes.
13 years, 3 months ago
Wonderful quality guys, 10 thumbs up.
13 years, 3 months ago
Joseph's recordings are fun and informative, he's always on track but sometimes his background music is competing with the person talking on the show making it harder to hear what they're saying. I think he should turn the tunes down a notch.
13 years, 3 months ago
Awesome show guys, also, really nice intro music. Kind of miss the old one, but it's all good. Only concern was at about the 17 minute mark there was a really annoying staticky noise that was overwhelming Jack for a few minutes. Other than that, great job.
13 years, 3 months ago
Actually, going back and listening again, I think it might have been my bad on the noise. Still great.
13 years, 3 months ago
Must know the soundtrack of the intro or I will kick turtles....Side note, great audio and as always great content, keep it up 4PP
13 years, 3 months ago
Is there anyway that you guys could tweak the audio in your podcast's so i don't have to have my iPod at full volume all the time? I really like listening to you guys but when Brad (or just anyone on the show) shouts it nearly kills my ears but when your normally talking the only way I can hear you is by having the volume blasting in my earbuds. Other podcasts that I listen to I don't need the volume blasting and only need a couple of clicks but for some reason I have to make the 4pp podcast at full blast.
But other than that little thing that I've had to deal with for the entire time I've been listening to the show it sounds great, the new audio set up makes you sound really clear but like any new setup there were a few hiccups. Great show and I'm really looking forward to the next show.
13 years, 3 months ago
Right around when you guys were talking about PSN Play, Nick got really super quiet. I had the volume on my MP3 player maxed out for most of the show because it was pretty quiet overall when y'all weren't yelling.
13 years, 3 months ago
I will never listen to this. But for the sake of the community I will comment on it
13 years, 3 months ago
I would turn up the audio when you guys were further away from the microphone but then you would lean forward and talk loudly so I had to turn it down. Constantly monitoring the audio was a bit of a pain otherwise it sounded good.
13 years, 3 months ago
any chance nick will actually ever reveal what the music was? lol. The intermission music was really nice.
13 years, 3 months ago
Yeah, the audio was a smidgen low
13 years, 3 months ago
Great podcast guys! Keep up the good work.
13 years, 3 months ago
Best audio in the 2 years I've been listening to this show great job guys.
13 years, 3 months ago
Great job guys loved it.
13 years, 3 months ago
The sound for this Podcast was amazing, kudos to you guys for taking that chance on using the mixer, it paid off.
13 years, 3 months ago
I love the Nintendo64 Turok music in the intro!
13 years, 3 months ago
The sound is great!
Excited to finally start playing Bastion now that it's out on PC!
13 years, 3 months ago
When you said 'vegan dinosaur' I almost shouted, ''I'm a vegan dinosaur!'' Then remembered that I wasn't a dinosaur. Yes I am vegan and No, I think Super Meat Boy is a fantastic game.
Sound quality was great, but please don't shout, I listen to the show through headphones, and it canes my ears when you guys do.
Much appreciation from this UK fan, I'll try comment more on your articles.
