Delays are an inevitability, especially during this time of year. For games that trail behind the huge holiday title hype, there are two options:

    1. Delay the game in the interest of improving sales numbers
    1. Stand your ground and hope that your game isn't forgotten among the sea of high profile releases.
After getting some hands-on time with "The Darkness 2" at E3 2011, I knew a delay was a possibility but I was praying other games would take the hit instead. Games like Silent Hill Downpour, which looked promising but could clearly benefit from some extra development time. Unfortunately, The official Darkness twitter feed (@thedarknessgame) posted the following update just hours ago:

The Darkness II has a new release date: February 7th 2012 in North America and February 10th internationally.

I am truly saddened by this announcement but i'm sure it is ultimately in the best interest of the game. Some will shout from the rooftops that this game, now being handled by Digital Extremes, is suffering from development problems and that this is likely a reflection of the games quality. While I certainly recognize that this may be the case, don't you think it is far more likely that it has been moved out of a release window that might put it in direct competition with:

Rage, Dark Souls, Battlefield 3, Batman Arkham City, Uncharted 3, Elder Scrolls Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Assassin's Creed Revelations

Yeah... that was probably a wise decision on 2K's part.

Hell, we still have an awesome year of games to go yet anyway! I'm sure you'll easily forget about this game for a while when playing the majority of those other ones. :P

I'm just happy they have more time to work on the game. They really need to polish this in order for me to give them $60. Right now it's in the "I'll wait for the bargain bin" category.

Smart move. Lineup is way crowded near the end of this year.

This just annoys me, I need new games to play and this is one I am expecting great things from.

Delays are always a good thing. Gives the company more time to polish the game. I'd rather wait for a more polished Darkness 2 than a more janked Darkness 2.

    Probably for the best.

I don't even know what to think about this game anymore. Delays aren't always a bad thing, but this doesn't seem like a good delay if you ask me. Seven months is not the kind of length of time you push a game back because "it might be put in direct competition" with something.

    Really Nick? You cried?
Darkness 1 was cool and all, but nothing to shit your pants in excitement over.
And QTR 4 2011 is already filled with way too many games to possibly play this year.
