We all know that Rockstar has the tendency to create huge worlds for their games but this marks the first time that one of those worlds spans multiple discs. Joining the ranks of games like Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, and Dead Space 2, Rockstar's next AAA title, 'L.A. Noire' will span 3 discs on the Xbox 360. Of course, the PS3 version, which already sports an extra Vice Case that is exclusive to Sony, still fits on a single PS3 Blu-Ray disc.
While Rockstar seems to be spinning this to mean that L.A. Noire is their biggest game yet in terms of scale or length, I fear that it really comes down to something else entirely. With the primary focus being on the revolutionary facial mapping technology, I would imagine that the required art assets for a game of this magnitude would be rather large. Don't mistake this for pessimism, it's no secret that L.A. Noire is among my most anticipated games of 2011 but I find it hard to believe that the world of L.A. Noire will be bigger and more detailed than that of 'Red Dead Redemption'. While I don't doubt their ability to do so, I doubt that the open-world elements of the game will play as large of a role it does in most Rockstar Games.
While I would never dabble in the PS3/XBox 360 superiority war, it is looking more and more like Sony might have just landed the winning blow in the case of L.A. Noire. I would be very interested to see how many people rush to the store to convert their pre-order to the PS3 version over the weekend.
L.A. Noire hits store shelves on May 17, 2011.

Though in the end I will probably end up buying Noire I dont see it having the same attraction to players like there previous games such as Red Dead or Grand Theft Auto. Mainly due to the fact that there isnt going to be any multiplayer.

Already have a pre-order placed on The Witcher 2 (which comes out on the 17th as well) and I was planning on beating that at least 2-3 times before I picked up L.A. Noire (which would probably be around the end of this summer/early Fall.) This news has piqued my interest though - I'm interested in the facial design, the setting, and perhaps some of the gameplay mechanics. Now if the story and replayability can fill a blu-ray disc that sounds rather appealing and might warrant a day 1 purchase. My wallet is crying this month...

This is the first time I've heard a modern game span out to 3 discs. What is this PS1 RPG's? well this won't kill my hype for this game.

lol this certainly peeks my curiosity...I'm still waiting on the word from you guys whether its worth looking into or not.

I don't find switching disks all so horrible. It hasn't killed my interest in the game a bit.

I really don't mind switching disks, and the has achievos!

And people still try to argue with me that Blu-Ray disks ARE NOT superior to DVDs in any way. >_<

Man and I pre-ordered on the PS3 before I knew about the DLC and this. Feels good man.

Multiple discs has never been a problem for me. I doubt this will change anything.. for me at least. o.o

I'd have no quarrel with multiple discs, but I have a ps3. >____>
'changing discs' just brings back this awful memory of when I first played MGS1 and couldn't save, and accidentally turned off the PS1 when changing discs after 5 hours of sitting.

I've never had a problem with switching discs so far. I really didn't mind it in ME2, and it probably won't matter for LA Noire. Though, this really has to get Microsoft thinking about maybe releasing a newer console.
Since Nintendo is going to release a new console, Microsoft should think about it, solely because of the disc format.

oh shit this is definably going to be epic if it spans across 3 dics,

Rather than turn me off, this actually makes me even more interested than before.

Still not interested in the game.

I won't be changing my pre-order, I love my PS3 for it's exclusive games but the horrible controller and vomit inducing user interface force me onto X360 for 3rd party stuff.

If disc swapping is a problem then you need a firm slap on the face. It makes absolutely no difference to the game what so ever.
It's a rarity I still enjoy, like buying a double vinyl record.

Times like this I'm glad I have a PS3... except for the hacking, and the lack of online services, and the still-not-disconfirmed possibility of credit card fraud, and the horrible PR management from Sony... But at least L.A. Noire is only one disc for me.
Fuck, I just want to play Portal 2 coop. :(

Wow, haven't seen 3 discs since playing on the PS1.

Although anyone who is loath to change a disk on account of physical exertion is probably nuts, 3 discs just smells like someone-didn't-do-their-job-right-and-slapped-it-together-last-minute. But my premonitions could be wrong, and I am still excited about the game, regardless.

When it was first announced I disregarded L.A. Noire as a GTA style crime drama with nothing special going for it. As I've gotten closer and closer to the release and started paying attention to it, this game has me really interested. I don't care for GTA and have not played Red Dead but this game is probably going to be a buy for me the week of release. Thankfully I'm on the PS3 so the single disc works in my favor but the more complex games do become in the tech department (facial animation, lighting, physics, etc...), those are the things that are going to take up significantly more space. I wouldn't be shocked if Microsoft bit the bullet and ponied up the cash for Blu-Ray in the new system.

Rockstar can go fuck themselves for neglecting the pc community...
No Red Dead Redemption for PC, a shitty port of GTA 4 much later and this is also a console only game....
Fuck you Rockstar

Not surprised. Man this game is going to be balls of fun. BALLS of fun.

All that detailed facial rendering has to take up a lot of space. It would be nice if they could figure out an install option like in Forza 3 so if one had the hard drive space they wouldn't need to switch, though it probably switches at descent intervals regardless. Also, I rather enjoyed that header image Nick.

Ive never trusted sony with 3rd party games due to the fact that i have a standard television. Examples would include the technical issues on Mafia 2 for ps3, but this is making it hard for me to get it on xbox now. Ive always used the xbox as a standard for multiplatform titles but i wonder.

pre-ordered it on amazon for the $15 dollar gift certificate

This game does interest me however lack of multiplayer and now multiple disks is a definite turn off. Rockstar is pretty bad with loading times so having to change disks and then wait through a 10 minute opening load screen is just going to be painful. I would like to just have an enormous map that takes a significant amount to cross but if that cant be done then I think im gonna have to pass on this one. GTA 5 lets GoOOOoOOoooOooOo

Damn it. I can only get this game for the 3-shitty. Oh, well. I'm still hyped for this game nonetheless.
