In similar fashion to the 3DS announcement last year, Nintendo confirmed rumors today that a Wii successor will be shown and playable at E3, which starts June 7, 2011. The only other detail confirmed by the company’s investor note is that it will be launched sometime in 2012. It will be after March 2012 though, as Nintendo’s financial forecasts for 2011 do not include this new system. The fiscal year in Japan runs from April 1 to March 31 of the following calendar year.

Nintendo did not comment on any of the numerous rumors about the upcoming console’s features or abilities.

Great! I hope that this won't be as disappointing as the Wii.

Hope expectations are not too high, remember they will make something that makes money, not just better than the current competition.

That and, I wonder how the others will steal Nintindo's ideas.

I never bought the Wii. Not that I'm trying to be snide or anything. It's just that my brother was the one making the money and playing these games; he would always buy from Nintendo for Mario and Donkey Kong games. He didn't care for the Xbox or Playstation, and he moved out before we could take advantage of the Wii. But I got into Xbox and basically stuck with it.

Maybe I'll finally get another Nintendo system this year. I do sorta miss Mario.

Oh, yeah and it'll be nice to see what new mechanics it'll have, I guess.

Hopefully Nintendo evolves their next console in the right direction.

In all honesty, it deeply saddens me that so many people just want a "HD" Wii. Fuck that, I want an ENTIRELY new console, I want a reason to be excited about it without gimmicks. "Herp derp, it has motion controls and it's HD, so it's awesome!!!!" <- Not what I wanna see, lets see some real innovation. Also, can we get some competent new IPs for once? I'm really tired of Mario, Zelda, Metroid and DK being listed as the reason any of my friends own a Nintendo product.

the fukk? what mistakes did nintendo make with the wii? u kids gotta learn: nintendo WAS the one who brought motion sensing to the masses. m$ and fony just copied it by the time they found out that it actually does generate a fukking lot of money.

now let us wait one more console generation and THEN see some new controlling hardware. maybe some brainwave controlled input device or whatev.

    peace
