Yous guys need to know that I love me some Red Faction: Guerilla. It has sweet destruction and Mars and stuff. I first saw Red Faction: Armageddon at E3 last year and came away wicked impressed. The weapons they showed, especially the magnet gun, were wicked sweet. I was only concerned about the wicked close camera and wicked linear level structure.

Well, I finally played the game, and I'm now officially frustrated with this game. The weapons in the demo were wicked cool. I'm also not really concerned about the game's linearity. The biggest problem with the game is the one flaw I noticed a year ago. The camera is wicked awful.

There are two wicked terrible issues with the camera. One, it's way to close. Secondly, it's locked to the character. The game is obviously channeling Dead Space with it's monster designs -- and it dawned on me that the camera changes might be for the same reason. The problem is movement and shooting Red Faction is wicked fast. And when shooting at and running from debris, yous need a better camera. I'm praying Volition puts in the camera options from Guerilla. If not, this game could be surprisingly disappointing.

We have to do something about this. I'll post details on how we will do this soon.

Great article, Brad. I've never had the luxury of playing a Red Faction game but from watching those videos I understand the concern of the camera.

Yeah, I agree, that's just ridiculous. At least I know if it's coming out on PC (I'm assuming it is, right? Too lazy to check though), there will be some way to mod the camera distance.

The destruction and weapons in Armageddon are fantastic. I especially love the magnet gun. I get the concerns about the camera because when you are doing things right in Red Faction, stuff is coming down all around you and you need to be able to see it. Overall though I am impressed early.

Nice article. Hopefully they will decide to change the camera because they even said when making Guerilla, that the camera they had put in, helped you avoid any frustration surrounding it. So this camera will cause problems for a player to observe his surroundings, especially as you play the game underground.

Sweet! Thanks for the awesome insider info. The destruction looks just as good as Red Faction: Guerrilla.

When the game was announced, many were up in arms about it not being on mars and being underground. I actually like this concept. Being a sci-fi/horror fan, I think it's a good change of pace to the franchise. But to hear that it's going down an already familiar path of scares and monsters alike dead space, it turns me off completely. Dead space is dead space, red faction is just different. Cant imagine it being so alike DS, cause if it's true, i'll flip a poo.

This was a wicked good post and felt like I came away with some wicked information. Hopefully, Volition pulls their heads out of their asses and realizes this is a Red Faction game first and foremost.

    Wicked smart post Brad.
