So Pac-Man Championship Edition Deluxe is on sale this week for five bucks on XBLA. I've begun my debate on whether to pick it up or not.
On one hand, it's five dollars. I know that if there is ever a chance that I will want to play this game, I should pick it up now. Rarely does the XBLA game you want go on sale so the general rule is to pick it up when you see it on sale. As far as the reasons why I would want to pick it up, that's about it.
For the reasons against, I didn't really like Pac-Man Championship Edition. I bought it at full price and maybe put in a couple hours into it. I don't really care too much about score based games and replaying levels over and over doesn't appeal to me. And while CE DX has new modes and versions, I can't help but feel a little burned for paying for the full version which is now included in the "Deluxe" version. Essentially I paid the same price for a third of the game.
Another reason I really I'm against picking up the game is because of the atrocious controls. D-Pad? Analog Stick? I think it's a choice between two pieces of crap. The frustrations of making wrong turns with the game speeding up isn't exactly my cup of tea.
I did watch Nolan and Brad fiddle around with their copy of the game however. Some of the puzzle modes might have seemed interesting and picking a couple cheevos here and there isn't all bad...
Pass or Play?

Its actually really good. I never played championship edition, but the ghost chaining mechanic in DX is really fun. Another good thing is that it isnt super difficult. Better players will get better scores sure but you can still have a good experience even if you arent a pro pacman player. The chaining mechanic fits well with the stages and the game has a good flow, especially when things start to speed up. On top of that, the music is pretty great.
5 dollars is a steal for this, one of the best live arcade games IMO

I just picked it up when it went on sale. I'm liking it so far, though since most of my friends don't have it, I think I'm lacking the High Score aspect of the game. The controls can get out of hand when it speeds up, but I really haven't had that much trouble with it. (On beginner,) I think the game is pretty forgiving/fun.
As for eh... Achievement-wise... I got 55 Gamerscore on my first 5 minute game.

Get it man, the game is worth it. Plus the achievements aren't that hard I got the 200points within a day of purchasing it.

I bought pac man after hearing about all the great things that people I generally respect in the business were saying about it. Im pretty sure its the highest rated game that came out for xbla last year. Its fun for a few hours but when you get down to brass tax its just pac man. There arent any interesting mechanics, theres nothing but scores to keep your interest. I loved Trials HD but could give a shit about the time and comparing my scores to people on my friends list. Pac man is purely about high scores and if you dont care about that then theres absolutely no need to buy this game.

I was never a big Pac-Man fan but this game really pulled me in. I never cared for getting high scores but with this game I do because I feel that I can do better with each try. Also, the controls aren't really bad. I rarely find myself making wrong turns because the path I should take is fairly obvious throughout. And if nothing else, the achievements are ridiculously easy to get. I think I got 5 or 6 after my first round.

I got the PS3 version (for the better D-Pad) and I like it a lot more than the bland CE version of it.

Pac-man was fun at the arcade but I don't enjoy the game now.

Get and Play this David. For 5 bucks, thats a good deal. I got all 200 cheevos in maybe 2-3 days, really its not that hard. There is extreme satisfaction in learning the patterns of each world and racking massive scores from eating dozens of ghosts at once (at least in my opinion).

I say Play. For one, I have loved Pacman since i could get my hands on a joystick...my earliest memories are of my brothers and I going into the local arcade spending hours upon hours and quarters (and now nickels) trying to get the high score! Anytime a new Pacman (or Ms. Pacman) game arises, i play it for the fond oohy gooey goodness of nostalgia.

Oh man, 5 bucks?! Time to bring out the wallet. I did play the demo a few weeks ago and the controls pissed me off to no end. But I think I can learn to deal with them.

Original Pac-man, always has been the best, always will be in my mind. That had the best turning and memorization, I believe. Better than any of the other versions of late. As much as I like to see them trying to add new things, I still think that the original beats anything they can create today.
Worth the price? Five dollars for it? Eh, perhaps it's worth spending on it for a collector's edition. That's just my personal thoughts, though.
