You know, I'm having a hard time understanding why Platinum Games wants this footage to be viewed by the public. Inaba can talk all day about the challenges of making this type of online brawler, but if the team doesn't find a way to fix them, then the game will be an utter failure. And while the footage below gives us the best look at Anarchy Reigns yet, it appears that my worst fears are coming true. I know the game is still early, but the lag issues in the videos below are exactly the kinds of problems I knew this type of game would run into.
The sad part? The game looks like it could be really fun to play if it wasn't a laggy mess. Rooftop chases, vehicular projectiles, and over-the-top deathblows is exactly the kind of crazy I want out of Anarchy Reigns. I'm impressed that the environment shown in all of the trailers thus far is actually a large and complex fighting arena with an emphasis on verticality. I'm also glad to see The Black Baron and his deadly assistant Mathilda from Mad World as playable fighters. I have no doubt that other Platinum Games stars will manage to creep their way into this game.
Hopefully Anarchy Reigns ends up coming together online. And if not, I hope the single-player is a well developed experience instead of the multi-player maps with bots. I will continue to expect the worst, but hope for the best.

P* is currently my favorite devs this console generation, but ffffuck I just can't seem to give a damn about Anarchy. Nothing I've seen or read really impresses me or excites me at all so far. I don't know if it's just me awaiting the next good Kamiya-directed game or not, but whatever... This is one of those things that I need to have hands on experience with (understanding the mechanics, control scheme, etc.), not just gameplay footage and information. That alone may be the only thing so far that'll drive me to purchase this first day, aside from me wanting to support P*.

Fast paced, high octane, non-stop action! I love beat 'em ups, so i'll be lookin' into this. I'm wondering what kind of choices you get for the character selections though. Are there preordained archetypes, or are there going to be skill trees of some kind?

I have faith in Platinum Games SP expirence. That footage is cause for concern though. Multiplay could be laggy like Gears 2.

lag lag go away come again another... day? thats not right Lag GTFO!!!!!!

I too can't fathom why Platinum would want to show this. There's no worse way to promote an online game (especially one that's already going to be overlooked to begin with) than by saying "Hey, our online fighting game is gonna be laggy as all hell with enough of you playing!". I don't get it.

I can't really say for sure whether I'm interested or not. It does look a little... (Can't find the word...) But I might try it out. :P Although I'll wait and see. Bleh.

the multiplayer does seem kind of iffy considering the kind of game it is. I think it should be fun: i personally am tired of slow paced shooters so this game will be the wild card game im looking for

I certainly can see how this would be a great game but lag like that will ruin any experience for me with video games.

its kinda like they're ignoring the big elephant in the room? Dear Platinum Games, your game looks cool...but please I beg you, PLEASE do not unleash a cool looking game with a ton of lag..to me that just takes away from the gaming experience...
hope it gets fixed....

I'm not really into these kind of beat 'em up games but this game actually caught my attention the first time you posted about it. While it looks (and sounds) like it has such potential, it's sad to see this flaw. I was shocked to see that they'd release gameplay footage that can potentially harm peoples faith in it. I can only wonder how a match would be up against an opponent who may not have a good connection. Despite, it's lag issue I'm quite interested to learn more about the single player aspects which would definitely do it for me if its solidly developed.

Well this looks... interesting.

Lag ruining an online gaming experience? Not everyone has the best connection ever, and people in Asia, Europe, and the Americas all want to play with each other, despite the lag?
Who would have thought?

Tis a shame of the lag, but it is only lag right? And when is this game supposed to hit shelves? Brad do you know when this game is supposed to come out? I'm sure this game has plenty of time to bang out most of these issues. I hope.

A bizarre combination of Breakdown, Phantom Dust, and Mad World... I don't know. I'm not feeling this one.
A more responsive city (moving vehicles, pedestrians, etc.) would be a step in the right direction.

The gameplay trailer would have been better if they hadn't set it to music. Then it would be obvious it didn't represent a final product.

If they release it in that state the game will get crushed by reviews.

NOt exactly the best way to advertise your game, by featuring footage of massive lag spikes.
Still, looks like more fun than most multiplayer games I can think of.

What's the point of having a game that's going to be a good looking game and yet have the laggy multiplayer? That's what kills Brawl for me online is the fact that it lags so much online! (of course, that could partially be due to my internet connection as well)
This looks...okay? The gameplay doesn't leave me wanting much of anything. I really hope that when this does come out, it's a gem. There are too many games out there today that aren't gems at all. Instead, they're complete crap that one could care less about. Even Nintendo is starting to head down that direction.
As for the lag, I hope they fix that with this game. It looks fun but it is lacking so much when it holds a potential for so much more...

Eh, I can't really say I'm extremely excited about this game. I may have to see more of it though. The short gameplay trailer just didn't do it for me.

It'd be cool to see Bayonetta in Anarchy Reigns.

honestly this will be a sweet game, But, yea I could see the lag. I'm sure they will smooth the gameplay out. It will be awesome fighting game and will bring back some life in fighting games.

I'm excited but why would they want to show laggy gameplay?
13 years, 8 months ago
the lag doesn't look so horrible that its game breaking but its enough to pull you out of the game and annoy the hell out of you
