What you are about to see is gameplay footage of an indie developed game from a team of less than 10 people. And the game has only been in development for 9 months. That really is the craziest part about Hawken. Well that, and quality mech games don't come around very often.

Now imagine if this game was covered in tactical squares.

>_>

:(

DAMN YOU SQUARE ENIX!!!!

Man, this game's looking pretty cool. It's especially impressive seeing as how they're development team isn't that big.

This game does look like a lot of fun. I hope that it doesn't control like Armored Core, and is a bit more accessible. Not that Armored Core was bad, but when looking at the cinematics in that game, you'd imagine a more easier control scheme to pull off the same moves like in the cutscenes. Obviously if it controlled like Zone of the Enders, it would be great, but I don't think it would make sense for this particular mech game. Oh well, it still looks great.

Time to bust out the 40 button controller. Game look awesome and the audio feedback reminds me of the bad company games. lol just imagine the credits rolling 10 people

The gameplay looks extremely slick and smooth, compared to the jerky movement from various other mech related games that constrain your movement. I understand that sometimes that jerky movement fits the mech experience, but I personally love the direct, smooth control as to the alternative.

One thing that stuck out for me in that clip, was how great the audio sounded. The muffled explosions, gunfire, emergency alerts, and various other mechanical sounds all portrayed the experience of being in the cockpit of a death machine. Audio is often left to rot in the corner while graphics are spit shined to a blinding sheen. It's nice hear some quality sound effects once and a while, compared to annoying screeching of generic alarms and bland explosions with no character.

Wow, that looks really good. I wish Armored Core was like that, I would've stuck with the series way longer.

Looks great, sounds great, my only concern for a game like this would be variety. Kinda wish i could mash this and trenched together.

So let me get this straight. Less then 10 people managed to do more in 9 months then corporate funded teams of 40 manage in a year and a half. AND ITS FREAKING AWESOME.

    I really am in shock.

Hopefully this comes to the Xbox sometime in the future, because it doesn't seem like that MechWarrior reboot will be out anytime soon. Sound design is amazing as well, big plus for me.

Wow. The gameplay (Which was only done with 10 people in 9 months) looks very fluid and fast paced. The sounds as well sound great really sounds like Mech sounds, they've done well so far. Hope to see this come out on 360 or other consoles. If they can fix the weird lag while fighting another mech, then it'll seem very realistic for a mech game. Can't wait to see what they'll show next.

Really, nobody thinks that there is something off with the game? this game, at least by watching the video, doesn't feel like a mech game. This is Quake DM with a jet pack. Level design is boring, well once again Quake arena. Just a bunch of crates that get on the way. They suppose to look like buildings? Almost impossible to feel the scale or the weight of your mech. no cars on the ground no buildings that looks like buildings to make you feel big. speed of fights is unrealistically fast for machines that weight a few thousands tons. I'm not trying to say that this game should be a mech sim, but right now its just another DM or CTF game that looks good.

For as early in production as it is this is really impressive. Curious to see if it'll be multiplayer only or if there will be a full campaign to go with it. Love the gritty urban style, perfect for mech games.

It looks and sounds great. The only problem I see is lack of color and identifiable silhouettes. The game is fast paced in an environment that is mostly gray and full of pipes and industrial objects. It seems like it would be pretty easy to spend some time firing at a vending machine off in the distance a couple of times before you realize its not an enemy. Looks like fun though.

i'm sorry, but if 10 people can do this in 9 months, there is no excuse for drawn out production periods where the end result is shitty. there is no excuse.

That is really, really impressive. And in 9 months no less. I'd love to see what these guys could do with a big budget, a couple of years, and the freedom to make what they want.

I am assuming this runs on the UT3 Engine...looks like it and the gameplay has a very close resemblance to Unreal Tournament 3. Even the font for the kill message looked identical. I will most definitely take a closer look at this.

When I watched the video for the first time, I really thought that being developed by "a small indie team for only 9 months" was a joke. Then I read the blog post...

Indie games should be more like this.

I'll go for a "Damn!" instead.

And as someone that's been playing videogames since 1986, it's great to see some of that old amateur game creation still going on with stuff like Minecraft and Xbox Live Arcade and this.

There's something incredibly visceral about the gameplay - you feel simultaneously high-powered/exhilarated and vulnerable. At least for me, the aesthetic is very Blomkamp, District 9, and that may be why it gives me the heebie-jeebies.

That was simply amazing. As soon as the gameplay started, I said "holy shit" to myself. The detail in the environment and the quality sound effects they use is simply jaw dropping, I'm definitely going to be following this game now.

Fantastic audio. Visuals too. If I told someone to just listen to the video without watching it, they would probably say they were listening to a Michael Bay Transformers movie.

The game looks really immersing, with the cockpit view, the lack of arms and such makes it seem not very futuristic, but the real trump, is the Sound Design. Just, perfect.
