Spider-Man Edge of TimeI think that this might be the 3rd or 4th time that I have made a post about the announcement of an upcoming Spider-Man game. It has become a regular occurence thanks to Activision's undying devotion to the IP. After the release of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows a few years back, I was certain that the series would never see another game that proved to be as good as Spider-Man 2 or Ultimate Spider-Man. Last year, the series took yet another leap of faith into the hands of a relatively unknown developer, "Beenox" with the release of "Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions".  The game told an interesting story told from the perspectives of four different Spider-Men from four different universes. This allowed the team to experiment with different art styles and villains in a surprisingly satisfying way. Even without the signature open world swinging mechanics of former titles, the game still managed to capture the appropriate vibe. I walked away from that game with my appetite wet but my expectations not quite met.

As of today, Beenox is officially prepared to unveil their next stab at the Spider-Man universe with their next title: "Spider-Man: Edge of Time." Clearly, Beenox is intent on maintaining their unique approach to the series by involving more than one Spidey universe at a time. This time, they have shortened their roster to include the Amazing Spider-man and the ever popular Spider-Man 2099. The game will tie these two universes together by allowing events that transpire in one universe to carry over and affect the other.  Players will hop back and forth in an attempt to straighten out both timelines and thwart the plot of whatever Spider-Man villain they choose to include.

Classic comic book writer, and co-creator of Spider-Man 2099, Peter David is on board writing the script so expect a strong story at the very least. With that said, the important questions still remain. Will the game include an open world or stick to the linear path that they created in Shattered Dimensions? Which villain will serve as the prime adversary? Will the camera suck again? Only time will tell as i'm sure we will get our first peek at the game after WonderCon attendees get an eye full this weekend. Stay tuned.

You know I've always personally liked the concept of going back and forth in time and seeing the changes and affects to things you do in your story. If they do this right it might be the first really good spiderman game in a long time.

I've actually recently played through Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions and I was pleasantly surprised too. It wasn't a best spiderman I've played but it was al ot better then I expected so I am defiantly excited for this next game coming up.

I love swinging through buildings and cityscapes in certain spiderman games. Until however, that they can make any other facet of the games compelling to play, i cant see myself playing them. Hope it goes well...

Cant they just...make a second Ultimate Spiderman game? That comic AND game were both so good.

    2099? What?
I was pulling for a full-on Noir game with a fleshed-out stealth and improved wall-crawling controls and cameras. Oh well, I guess Beenox hates fun.

Ugh... I love Spider-man, I really do. But, srsly, the last Spidey game came out last year!

And why 2099? Not many people are really a fan of Miguel... or how freakin' OLD he sounded in Shattered Dimensions. Maybe Marvel's trying to bring popularity to it?? Noir or Ultimate would have been a much more interesting choice for me.

Also, please tell me that image you have is NOT from the game. Amazing Spidey's suit is looking a little TOO much like the one from the piece-of-crap-looking movie. All dirty and shiny and messed up.

I hope the improve on the combat cause honestly I enjoyed the combat in Web of Shadows more than Shattered Dimensions.

I also hope that the choices/changes you make in the timeline aren't as black and white as the choices of good and evil in Web of Shadows
