Grand Theft Auto Vice City

I thank god everyday that I didn't grow up in the 80's. Harsh statement? Maybe. The truth is, I find nothing appealling about the thought of living my youthful years in a time with such tacky fashion and music. With that said, there is one great thing to have come out of the 80's and that is Grand Theft Auto Vice City. So the game didn't actually come out in the 80's, big deal, it is still one of the greatest depictions of 80's culture out there. What a wonderful example of the fun that can be polked at american culture and what a perfect fit for the famed Grand Theft Auto series.

Vice City, while lacking in some of the more "over-the-top" features and verticality of the more recent Grand Theft Auto games, was easily one the most inspired entires in the franchise. Now, signs are starting to point to the announcement of the next major Grand Theft Auto release after several wacky trademarks popped up online from Rockstar:

    • CashForDeadDreams.com
    • SixFigureTemps.com
    • StopPayingYourMortgage.net
    • HammersteinFaust.com
    • LifeInvader.com

If the next Grand Theft Auto really is on the cusp of being announced, then it is our job to let the guessing game begin. What will the new location or theme be? Will Rockstar reinvent the wheel again and take us out of our comfort zone and into a different country entirely? Will they take us back to an established, beloved location like Vice City? Nobody knows, but after seeing the improvements that were made to Liberty City from GTA III to GTA IV, I think a trip back to Vice City is just what the doctor ordered.

However, it is worth mentioning that the trademarks listed above, if they are in fact related to a new GTA, definitely suggest something a little bit closer to home and topical. Could they be preparing an all out social commentary on the current economic strife? Who knows but Rockstar would definitely be the right studio for that kind of thing.

Where do you want Rockstar to take the series next?

I'm sure it'll be Vice City if they do things in the LC-VC-SA order again.Still holding out for a next-gen San Andreas, which i hope they are building up to :)

I very much agree with you about the 80's statement. It's not harsh, it's true.

I honestly don't know how I feel about another GTA, the GTA series never did it for me but Red Dead Redemption was great and I am looking forward to LA Noire... We'll see what happens.

I'd actually much rather see another GTA game like GTA2[but modern] with all the original gangs and their wacky missions still intact.

As long as they change their boring ass mission structure I might check it out.

Nah, man. The tackiness of the 80's is very distinct and will never come back. Being an 80's kid means it's easy to have a nostalgia rush.

Not unless Rockstar San Diego is making it (if it's gonna be for consoles) or Rockstar Leeds (if it's for 3DS/NGP).

Rockstar North already has their hands full with 2 big projects (Max Payne 3 & Agent). I don't think they'll be making another GTA this soon (and it would be better if they didn't considering how crappy GTA4 was).

I must have spent 100 hrs. in multiplayer free roam, and i'll admit it can get very boring. So I would like to see some more work put into that. But to answer your question I would like to see more of San Andreas, but I would definately take a modern day Vice City

A modern day Vice City would be interesting. But if they go to another country like Europe (or something along the lines) would be cool. Via Example London, Paris, or Berlin.

Hopefully it takes place in Modern Day Vice City. It would be interesting to see what Rockstar would change in the city as you said in the article, Nick.

I agree with you for the most part Nick: However, Rockstar did such an amazing Job with its 80's Vice City, I went through a whole 80's music Phase because of it! Not to mention the 80's scenery in Miami was nothing short of colorful, vibrant, and amazing. I seriously wouldn't mind take a trip back there, but if rockstar wants to go into a different setting besides San Andreas and Vice City, That sounds perfectly fine with me :)

I'd like to see something fun come out now.. GTA IV just isn't any fun for me. The same goes for Red Dead Redemption. I want some San Andreas back in the Rockstar games.

i'd be more thrilled about the return of Cj, and san andreas, that game was fucking tight and generally had a great system from working out, expanding your stamina, pimpin your rides to jet packs hovercrafts and beyond that game was sooooo much fun, i loved liberty city but san andreas is the best out of all the GTA games. just a thought

-Gary, p.s you guys rock :P just sayin'

I would much rather see a brand new location for the next game. It could be something not-quite-so-radical like Chicago or Chicago-esque city, but I would personally like to see a radically different landscape. Like the backwoods of San Andreas, having the locale be multiple little cities within a map of a natural environment(or environments) would be interesting.

I really doubt its a new GTA, there is no other evidence pointing towards it.

Hong Kong? Or at least a city based off shanghai or a Asian city.

And the kicker would be that you used to be a cop who went over the edge to find the killer of his partner who was in a gang based out of wherever in Asia it would be from. Not super original, but ya know. They could probably spice it up a little.

I hope they make a new Grand Theft Auto, IV wasn't really my favorite out of the series. I think San Andras is really the best Grand Theft Auto out there so far. I mean Jet packs, Parachutes, and even CO-OP on the same screen! I mean really why didn't they bring that back into GTA IV? I found myself playing more Saints Row 2 more then GTA IV. Rockstar really needs to kick up there game they need more fun cheats, weapons, and cars (In San Andras they had this really fast motorcycle that when I go on it I would go so fast my game didn't load!!). Also they need to make a country side then just three random cities in the middle of nowhere that looks like New York.

To call all of 80's music tacky is a pretty closeminded statement.
Some of the greatest artists/albums ever came from the 80's.
i.e. Prince, R.E.M., The Smiths, Public Enemy, N.W.A., Beastie Boys, Talking Heads, etc.

My guess would be modern Vice City. Or at least 90s Vice City. They'll probably nostalgia bomb us.

A new San Andreas would be bloody awesome. I enjoyed being a black dude more than a Russian. Or a Hawaiian shirt wearing Fonz.
