Has anyone here played this game? It is called ' Today I Die '  by Daniel Benmergui. It's a simple Flash game which features a lifeless woman underwater.  The rock tied around her waist makes it clear that this isn't a classic case of misadventure. So what then?

The game plays as an interactive poem of sorts. The words in the text are shifted around by the player to bring about changes and progression.

I'm not a big fan of these pretentious indie games with their on-purpose cheap graphics, 'experimental' gameplay and pseudoquasi-not-quite complex themes. This one, though, I enjoyed.  Even if most of it is based around clicking around and seeing what does what, as well as some trial and error (things that I'm not too fond of), it does it logically and with that little extra 'something' that makes me say "Wow, cool".

Give it a try. Let's talk about it.

Ah, yes... I remember playing this game on a friend's iPhone. It was short, but very enjoyable. :)

Try playing this, then immediately afterward play Robot Dinosaurs that shoot laser beams when they roar! Your emotional equilibrium will be completely thrown off!

These kinds of games aren't exactly "indie games", they're more like "art games".
Sure, they're made by independent people and not by a studio, but these are games made purely for art's sake, and are more like - as you said - interactive art pieces or poems.

Was quite interesting I liked how it was not to harsh on the player but left room for your own discovery

You know, achieving this "Wow, that was awesome" factor is what most Indie games are attempting to achieve.

It's really the only thing they can strive for. They're small teams to begin with. They have either a very limiting budget, or absolutely no budget outside of their own wallet.

Many need to stylize rather then render high end graphics as it's really the only way they can provide anything worthy and palatable to many gamers out there who desire some eye candy.

And these innovation on gameplay is what they need to play on too, to enable them to stand out and truly mark themselves out. Some others though can focus on making certain simplistic gameplay into a fine razer edge, take Shmups/bullethells for example. Click adventure games can also be made with relative ease by Indies, but still requires a lot of refinement and a good writer.

Anyhow, I'm glad to see one game out there got through whatever shell you've built up against the indie community and here's hoping you find more small development games to your interest.

And also quite happy to find another game to try out.

Just played and finish. A very simple but unique little morsel of creativity. I like how it changed with text. Wasn't sure what the heck I was doing at first, But I got it in a little bit.

Thoroughly enjoyed it - there's something weirdly therapeutic about helping a pixelated drowning lady conquer her depression. My favorite moment was the choice between "painful" and "dark" - my (little) mind was temporarily blown.
