Once upon a time, I was a wrestling fan. During the my elementary school days I watched the likes of Hulk Hogan, the Ultimate Warrior, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan. Later into high school I would rediscover my love with the nWo, Mick Foley, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. I would even take my interests in the sport to consider a career in Professional Wrestling, but alas Conservative Asian Parents and a botched Pedigree took me out of contention.

But I always look back on those times with fond memories and occasionally I will be reminded of why I love those days so. Recently I was sent this ridiculous video from an Indie Wrestling Company. And while some may argue is validity. I ask you, do you think a chunky white guy could move and dance like that if he weren't under some sort of hypnosis? Exactly, wrestling is real.

Thanks Derek Johnson (DJohnsonArt) for sending me this via Twitter.
David

I guess since I'm in Mexico, It'd be best to catch some Lucha Libre Action.

Oh my god dude, Carlos posted this clip below in the comments. It was so good, I had to add it to the pile.

Just in case people want the full uncut version.

And the commentators are really what makes the video so hilarious to me.

I have to agree David. There's no way that could ever happen in life without the aid of hypnosis.

Glad you liked this. Maybe people will realize that the sacrifices made by these guys are legit. That dude probably had rug burn and a damaged brain for a few weeks.

Im with you David. Wrestling was amazing when I was young. This clip is hilarious. Wrestlers are still operating under the impression that people care about the actual "wrestling" aspect of the entertainment sport. They are clowns. Dance clown...DANCE!!

Got a friend, well an old friend from high school... don't see him much anymore... wonder what he's up to.

Anyways, he did some wrestling back when I last met him, had some videos to show for it too, it was nice.

Wrestling is... both fake and real. There's certainly a lot of theatrics, and it certainly is entertainment. There's no doubt about that. Some matches are somewhat staged, with clear winners or losers to ramp up the drama, but real matches can occur in which case major damage can be done.

Of course, wrestling moves are real, and they are dangerous. Very dangerous. You could easily kill someone with any simple move from wrestling and anyone who knows even half a damn's worth of fighting can see in nearly any wrestling matches that they do a lot of pussying out. The backhand slaps and 'punches' to the bodies are all held back, the reactions are overdramatized and whatnot. But there's always one real match just around the corner just to shut you up for that one moment.

If all wrestlers would use their wrestling skills without restraint and without the theatrics. Matches would end rather rapidly, and a lot of them would be put out of commission... Permanently. It's one reason why Wrestling is fake, it's so that it can entertain, showcase some of the technique and not end up killing or permanently disabling it's participants...

Which is why you should never do wrestling at home.

    ...

Unless you do what they did. That's just fucking awesome. There should be more hypnotic wrestlers out there.

Theres just something entertaining about people going through tables, that awakens a primal urge, its like watching a 10 car pile up in stand still traffic just to see if theres blood, body parts, or other things.

Awesome post David! You brought back some great memories of my love of pro wrestling during the golden age in the late 90's. The WWF, WCW, ECW days were absolutely amazing, hard to believe there was a time when I actually looked forward to Mondays. I remember hearing on one of the shows one time when you said the first game you remember saving up for and buying was WCW/NWO Revenge for N64 which was probably in my top 3 wrestling games of all time. The old N64 THQ/AKI wrestling games were absolutely amazing and timeless, every once in a while me and my friends get together and still play 4 player battle royals in those games. Another thing i'm curious about is, with you being very interested in Japanese culture and all, did you ever get into Puroresu/Japanese Professional Wrestling? It is huge over there and they really regard it as a respected sport and not as just "Sports entertainment" like here in the states.

P.S. In my high school days I also had aspirations of being a superstar, but as a 5'11" 165 pounder the WCW cruiserweight division was basically my dream. Sad most of the promotions went under and now all that remains is the hollow shell of "World Wrestling Entertainment"

I didn't get into wrestling til a little later than most people and have kinda phased out of it, though I still keep an ear to the ground. This is absurd. Thank you sir for posting this.

Chikara Pro Wrestling do lots of funny video game related spots.

That one is probably my favourite... The lights go down then the "Finish Him" sound effect is played. XD They have a brilliant mix of comedy and wrestling, I love it.
