As I mentioned before, I think one of the most interesting aspects of the upcoming Silent Hill Downpour is the inclusion of a new composer. With Akira Yamaoka leaving Konami to pursue other projects, I was a little worried at first. Luckily, an equally talented composer, Daniel Licht, the man behind the music on Showtime's Dexter, stepped in to fill his awfully large shoes. Today, we get our first look, or listen rather, at a track from the Silent Hill Downpour soundtrack.
The track is a mere sample but I can definitely hear the influences of both the original Silent Hill and Dexter. While we don't have much to go on, this is definitely another step in the right direction for this beloved series.

I like the song, it's creepy and yet still catchy. It does capture that Silent Hill feeling where you don't really know what's going on. I trust you read the GI article on Downpour, I haven't yet but the screen shots look good.

This may only be a little glimpse at the soundtrack, but Daniel Licht seems to have done an absolutely fantastic job. I'm definitely a fan of his, and I'm psyched to see him taking on Yamaoka's job. Though I will miss Yamaoka, his soundtracks gave me nightmares. XD

I love Akira Yamaoka. To date he is one of my favorite video game music composers and to see Silent Hill coming out without his signature stamp on it is gonna be weird. One thing that feels different to me is that the song seems more melodic then some of the atmospheric ones that Yamaoka uses (yes I know songs like You're Not Here and Tender Sugar are lyrical and melodic, but the core for playing and exploring are very moody and feel broken in a way that builds the tension that I feel this is missing). I hope it turns out good because I love SH soundtracks, but Yamaoka is tough to replace.

Definitely reminescent of Dexter, which is awesome.

It sounds fine, as a song. But the reason Akira Yamaoka's scores were so legendary was because they usually weren't songs in the conventional sense. His music was an assortment of sounds designed to touch the human psyche in the most disturbing ways possible, then harmonize them. I wouldn't mind if this was maybe the title music, but it just won't work as well as the old stuff.

This is a really well done track. Hopefully the whole OST has this feel to it. Really looking forward to another beautiful Silent Hill soundtrack.

I could only think of the stealth segment of a Call of Duty game. =/

Not enough to have me sold, but just enough to make me want more. Licht IS a good composer, I have faith that h'ell light a fire under this games ass.

Fantastic. I can for sure see myself adventuring in Silent Hill while this plays. Akira Yamaoka is incredibly talented, but this sample sounds fresh and vibrant. I'm happy!

Yamaoka is a hell of an act to follow, but (from as little as you can glean from a single track) this sounds pretty good.
Keeping those fingers crossed.

Wow, now this is the kind of stuff I love to hear in my video games. I freakin love this already, and pray that the rest will be on this level.
