I know nothing about Yar's Revenge other than it was a game on the Atari 2600 that came out back in the early 80's. After seeing this trailer for the new Yar's Revenge, I honestly still know nothing about it other than the game seems to be centered around a busty anime girl in a tight mech-suit. I presume she will flying around and killing things with lasers and swords but who knows. Check it out.

There's gameplay footage of the 2600 game. It takes a minute to make sense of, but I think a fast-paced and stylish reboot of this could be pretty sweet.

I hope they keep that static bar in the middle.
P.S I don't know if it's new, but I like the Atari logo.

so apparently in the original yars revenge your character was a fly interested in what a girl in a mech suit has to do with that

Don't know what to think of it. Hopefully its treated better than the recent Haunted House remake. Also this won't be like the original Yars in the 2D sense. I'd be surprised if its still like it in the gameplay sense.
"In the modern version, we've taken the spirit of the original game and re-imagined the Yars' homeplanet as rendered by current gen technology," says Atari producer Michael Fahrny. "It is now a third-person arcade shooter experience in which Yar flies through visually stunning Miyazaki-inspired landscapes while fighting a wide variety of memorable enemies."
The plural of Yars is Yar, wat.

I had this game for the Atari 2600 when I was growing up and played it all the time. It'll be interesting to see what the concept brings with contemporary technology.

A fine candidate for "Most Unlikely Reboot of All Time".
Alternatively, "Let's take the name of a slightly-but-not-too beloved retro title and stick in onto our generic third person shooter to ensure it sells five times what it would have done."
I'll accept it as a remake only if there's some sort of equivalent to that massive bar of pure needlessness across the middle of the screen for the entire game.

That massive bar was important actually. I forget the exact use but I think it's the area where you're safe from that little flying line.
Anyhow, I'd only consider this a successful adaptation if as Yar you fought fairly large enemies and had to whittle away their interactive armor before sending your special energy projectile attack (which you can steer, possibly in slomo) into their exposed heart. If they did that not only would it be an interesting shooter but it would stay true to the gameplay of the original, instead of being the massively cheap cash-in that it will most likely be.

Babes in flying mech suits? I'm in.

That crazy ass bar has to come back in all its insaneness. Its the only reason I remember this game.

Could be good.
