Maybe news gotten around by now there's a collaboration between Level-5 and Capcom. Details about the project came out today as a Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton. So I guess it's pretty obvious that I'm at least a little interested about it. Separately they are two of my favorite franchises. I've beaten every game in each series and can't wait for the future releases.
As for this announcement, I can't say that 100% onboard. From the surface it seems like a match made in heaven but as a fan of both series, I'm a little worried this is just an attempt to make some waves. The pairing up will generate at least a little buzz but there are two more important questions I'd much rather be answered than how will their universes collide.
1.) How will the game play?
2.) How will each series play in the future?
The first question is pretty obvious. Are they going to mix elements of the two games? Will they just have it sectioned off dependent on which character you're playing? I need to hear/see some gameplay details before I geek out about this. The second question I'm more specifically interested in the future of each franchise, regardless of the outcome of this pairing. Both franchises have reached a bit of a stale point with only the most dedicated fans keeping up all the way through. They've lost people's interest along the way and the sales numbers have waned with each title. In the case of this pairing, I don't see more than just the two collective audiences getting excited. A person unfamiliar with either title is not going to understand the draw of the collaboration and it's going to limit the potential market. More importantly, I think real changes need to be made if either Phoenix Wright or Professor Layton want to continue to be relevant on their own. I just hope this idea of a team-ups isn't the only thing Level-5 and Capcom could come up with as they're both pretty talented.

On a side note I am glad to see Phoenix and Maya back. It's been a while since they've been in a proper game.

My friends are extremely excited about this, but I'm also curious as to how it will be played. Mainly a puzzle game? A little of both? There's no gameplay to really gather anything from. Is it even a game at all?! Unless it does very very well, based on sales and positive reviews, I don't know if it would be done again.

The only handheld game from Level 5 I wanna hear about is Ushiro. Until they reveal more info about that game then I don't care about any of their shovelware on the DS.
Yeah, that's right. I called it shovelware.
COME AT ME, BRO!

This is a dream come true. Two of the greatest handheld series ever collaborating.
Although I am a little bummed that there was no Breath of Fire announcement, I am willing to forgive for such a creative and awesome idea. Combining the courtroom action from Phoenix Wright with the puzzle solving of Professor Layton makes my pants feel extremely tight.

Seems to me like it will involve Phoenix Wright mechanics for the defending portion, trying to clear the girl's name, and also Professor Layton mechanics for trying to find the true culprit.

This is the kind of thing where I am inclined to just say "Who cares, be happy it's happening."

All I know is I am VERY interested. I love both of these franchises and I'm looking forward to what this game may have to offer.

I'm pumped for this.
I don't like basing opinions on a single trailer like this, but it looks good, and the story seems pretty interesting. Plus the music is gorgeous.

I was wondering when you'd post about it
