2010 is ridiculous. I don't know whether that is a good thing necessarily considering there is a good change I won't finish a fraction of these games. This is a gonna be a crazy list but here are the games that I hope to finish by the end of the year. I have broken it down into several categories for my own sake.
2010 Priority (Must finish)
Fallout 3 (Campaign 100%)
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West (75% complete)
Final Fantasy XIII (75% complete)
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow
Vanquish
Fallout New Vegas
Call of Duty Black Ops
Goldeneye 007
Blood Stone 007
2010: If there is time
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2
Dead Rising 2
Fable 3
Nier
Metro 2033 (60% complete)
ME 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker
Prince of Persia the Forgotten Sands
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (15% Complete)**
Metroid: Other M**
Chrono Trigger (25% Complete)**
2009 and Before
Dragon Age Origins
Demon's Souls
Bully
Of course, some games will take precedence. 2010 games are at the top of my list with Dragon Age Origins being at the main focus on the side as I play all this other stuff.
Go ahead and say it: I'm screwed.

Yep, you're pretty much screwed for this year.

And I thought my laundry list was bad... geez! Nick you have many sleepless nights ahead of you if you want to finish a good majority of that list.

You're boned Nick.
You didn't even include handheld games you're behind on. XD

I think we can all assume that you probably won't be playing any of the games listed under the "2010: If there is Time" category.
14 years, 1 month ago
Well god thats a huge laundry list mine might be like that next year since im not able to play anything till probably next year.
But i dont know just dump FFXIII and you may have a chance

Screwed. Hope you have a boat load of caffeine for your many sleepless nights of gaming, cuz I think you'll need to finish even a few of those games. =)
I agree with Stannis23. Personally, even at 75%, it's probably going to be painful to finish FFXIII. Trust me, I've done it (100% completed everything, in fact) and it was no fun at all. You might want to consider dropping it.

I think if you focus solely on the priority list you can get it done. Out of those New Vegas and Lords of Shadow seem like they're going to be the toughest (LoS has promised to be 20+ hours long). You can do it Nick. Even if you don't, I'm sure no one will make fun of you for coming up a little short....Yeah you're screwed.
In all seriousness good luck sir.

I've seen entire sets of Ikea furniture that was less screwed than you nick

That's not even counting your Laundry List... OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY!!!
(Sorry for the caps)

Dude! You absolutely need to play Nier, its one if not the best games of the year, just put goldeneye aside or something, think about it, you already played that but Nier on the other hand is one of the most unique RPG's of the last years, just go play it!
14 years, 1 month ago
Nick keep Bully on the back burner
14 years, 1 month ago
Have fun adding more games to that list next year unless you plan to touch anything new next year.

plan not to*

You're fuckin screwwwwwwwwwed.
14 years, 1 month ago
Awww I thought you were going to play Chrono Trigger! I'd love to see you finish that instead of FFXIII.
14 years, 1 month ago
Oh man, I JUST finished Bully (downloaded from XBL) and it was really great and original. Its pretty short too, you could run through it in a couple of days.

Yeah man, I like to usually be optimistic but you're being a bit over ambitious...lol, thats really the nicest way I can put it. Trying to blow through Dragon Age, New Vegas, the remainder of FFXIII (yawn...), Nier and Demon Souls is just gonna be a serious overload. I suggest you pick 2 of the big RPGs and focus on them and enjoy them without a huge time crunch (maybe Dragon Age and Demon Souls, even though they are both 2009 titles.) The fact that you just beat FO3 makes me think Playing 2 fallouts back to back may be a bit much. Rushing through a game like Dragon Age or New Vegas would just be robbing yourself of the experience in my opinion. Obviously titles like Castlevania, Enslaved, PoP:Fs, Goldeneye, etc... can be between in a few sittings so definitely keep those on your list.

I smell a Nick marathon month approaching. Maybe you could do a benefit- all proceeds during the marathon go to Nick's insane asylum bills after 30 days of no sleep.

That is a big list, I'd keep to the priority and the 2010 list. As much as I love Bully, keep it on the back burner for now and Dragon Age, play it December to January that should give you plenty of time to work your way through the list.

You're 100% finished the Fallout 3 campaign? In that case, I'd say put the game down and move on (revisit it at a later date, maybe, but after you've bitten off a good chunk of the list).
Dragon Age: Origins and Demon's Souls should take priority, because if you don't play them now, you'll never play them. Then finish up Metro 2033, Enslaved and FFXIII since you're more than halfway through each of those.
I think Lair of the Shadow Broker is easily the one that can wait the longest - it's necessary to play before ME3 comes out (according to Brad - I don't even own a 360 so I've never played it, & can't comment on it firsthand) but that won't be until 2012 anyway.
I would almost throw in the 007 games and Black Ops as your 'taking a break' games, when you need to step away from the longer titles for a sanity break.
Anyway, best of luck with all of this, Nick!

At a glance, the list looks huge because of the number of titles on it, but actually reading the titles you can spot a lot of short games that won't be too hard to beat. You being a video game reviewer, it doesn't seem unreasonable to think you have two hours a day of gaming time. In that amount of gaming time, working strictly on the main list, playing on normal difficulty, you can knock a game out a week (14 hours a week) and be stuck on New Vegas as the new year approaches.
Dragon Age is long, but if you play on normal and as a mage you can just AOE everything down and not have to worry about the headaches of precision setups. Focus on the main quest, don't get the mindset that you HAVE to get the best armor and weapons in the game to beat it and don't try to learn every party members history just because you think you have to. Allistar is funny to listen to and you get him right away, so you have your tank. Morrigan is a big part of the story, build her as your healer. Yourself as an AOE mage. That leaves the fourth to whoever interests you the most. Work on their stories and ignore the rest.

They key is to "Just Do It" this "I'll get to it eventually when I feel like it attitude" is why I never finished FF12 or DQ8. Just hunkering down and beating a game is exactly how I finished FF13 a many others. One night at about midnight, maybe even 1 I was turning games off for the night and decided to pop FF13 in for just a bit. I was getting kind of sick of it and hadn't played it in a week or 2 but really felt I should finish it. Once I started I wasn't exactly hating life so I figured I'd go for the gold. 3 hours later I watched the credits roll. I felt accomplished and enjoyed the game. It seems when I just sit down and play games I can finish them in 1-2 weeks. Games don't take long. That whole list of yours wouldn't require that many hours if you just did it. Problem is new games come out and we dip our toes in every game available and we don't just focus on the one at hand. I plowed through Yakuza 1 and 2 earlier this year without effecting any other games I might have played. Sure a game took the back seat for a couple weeks but I eventually finished it in a weeks time catching up with everyone else playing it. I'm married, 2 kids, and a full time job. If I can do it you can do it. Go get 'em nick.

Yeah. It's not gonna happen.
14 years, 1 month ago
I know it's in your "If There is Time" section, I highly recommend you finish Chrono Trigger. In all honesty, if you go through the game without getting distracted by sidequests the game can be finished rather quickly for an JRPG. I'd say you could beat it in 13-16 hours.
14 years, 1 month ago
Oh my gaawd.
That's a pretty menacing list, Nick. Good luck!

Yes, you are screwed... but seein this just reminds me for like the 20th time this WEEK that this has been/is an awesome year for gaming!
