dinnertime

I'm back from Japan and it's been a while since I had time to have a good conversation with my good buddy Brad. So we had a talk while having tacos. We talk about TGS, Ghost Trick, the Professor Layton movie, and Minecraft.

Peter Frampton to start off the podcast also, awesome. About Vanquish, I think it will sell, Bayonetta sold, I think it has a chance.

David, those games Brad was talking about are called Hatsune Miku: Project Diva, made by SEGA if you're interested. They're pretty fun games, but they begin to hurt my eyes after a while because the background to the songs are flashy.

Lords of Arcana looks too gimmicky, and I assume that the director towards the game wanted to put some features that were "missing" from Monster Hunter. Features like the "lock-on" mechanic looks sloppy because of the absurd camera angles. Monster Hunter doesn't have that since every monster takes damage depending on where you attack it. Plus, if you want to cut a piece of a monster's tail or break a monster's horn for materials, you will need to attack those areas.

Overall, I'm getting tired of Japanese game developers trying to make the Western audience as their priority. They should also stop being so desperate with genres that are picked to death, and be more ambitious (well not with well known franchises like DMC) with new franchises. Exceptions like Shinji Mikami's Vanquish adds new things that could raise a new bar on how third person shooters go in the future. I just wish that game doesn't bomb sales wise, since it's head to head against Fallout New Vegas (that doesn't mean New Vegas is to be avoided).

Oddly enough, I'll probably be listening to this on my flight to Japan tomorrow.

I didn't know they made a Professor Layton movie. Unfortunately I can't see myself looking at the movie now and NOT thinking about what David said.

I don't know if I'd call the project diva games respected. I mean it's kind of just Hatsune Miku fandom
