Fact:  People who don't try new things are boring in bed.

Do you want to be boring in bed?  No?  Because it seems like you do.

Come on people.  It sickens me to read these message boards and see how many people have completely written off the new Devil May Cry before seeing so much as an inkling of actual gameplay.  The teaser trailer that was released last week doesn't tell anyone a damn thing about the new game.  Nothing.  Nada.  Zero.  Not only do you know nothing about the gameplay, you know nothing about the actual personality of the character or the direction in which this game is going to go.  Wait for a gameplay demonstration and then let's talk.

Ryan Davis of the Giant Bombcast made a good point on their most recent podcast.  He pointed out that the DMC team's idea of trying something new in the last game was to give players an entirely new character to play as that looked EXACTLY like the original character.  That doesn't sound like change in my opinion.  If it takes a developer like Ninja Theory to bring something fresh to the table, then so be it.  Instead of acting like this new game erases the existence of your beloved Dante and all the games that game prior, why not try something new and see if you like it.

On a side note, I believe that during our discussions on this weeks podcast, Brad implied that a core installment in a series would never be developed along side a reboot... all I can say to that is:

Dear internet.  STFU.  Thanks.

    No kidding.

I just hope that Ninja Theory doesn't pull a Team Ninja/Nintendo collaboration on DmC, otherwise... I shudder to think at the outcome.

Fully agreed with this. I really liked the trailer and i really want to see what the game looks like in action and what kind of dude the new Dante is like and i'm pretty sure that Ninja Theory can come up with a better story than any of the previous games have had

meh, i never had a problem with the dante look. granted he reminds me of romona's first evil ex boyfriend from scott pilgrim vs the world so that does make me like the style a little more.

at the end of the day, what will matter most is the gameplay and THAT is the thing everyone should be worried about. not saying the developers are bad but DMC is NOT god of war, its levels far beyond it and yet their latest games have that god of war vibe to them in terms of combat. let us all hope the combat is fun while still having that layer of depth that makes the other devil may cry's fun.

Didn't you LIKE Nero? And he wasn't the same as Dante at all. He just looked like him. DMC 4 also hinted that he might be related to Dante. I guess we will never see where that one goes.

And Bioshock Infinite isn't a reboot. A reboot is when you take an original IP and completely rethink, rework, and reimagine it. This new game is effectively Bioshock 3. Bioshock 2 was set in Rapture and it will probably be the last one that is. If it continues, I see it sort of like a Call of Duty situation, where they alternate teams between the amazing game and the decent game. Maybe 2k Marin makes Skyoshock 2.

Also, Skyoshock is made by the original developers of Bioshock, and from the trailers shown, it still plays just like a Bioshock game. Sure there are changes due to the setting, but they are just that, changes due to setting. You still got a wrench and an electric blast. This isn't a reboot, it's just a sequel done right. This is more like their "Modern Combat".

You are crazy if you think DMC 5 is still in the works or even on the table. Only way that will happen is if the DmC reboot bombs. And it wouldn't be discussed until after it does.

The theory is a silly as assuming IGA is also working on a 3d Castlevania for consoles too. It just doesn't work that way.

And please tell me what internet message board you are reading. In fact, I believe we are the only ones who had a conversation about a potential for the original series to still to be in development. I don't know what spurred this post, but don't tell me, and the other people concerned, to STFU.

And on gameplay -- it is completely fucking reasonable to be concerned about a developers future efforts based on looking at their past works. It is for these reasons that I'm concerned about Lords of Shadow. Hell, what if Mercury Steam said they were going to make Halo 4? Think people might be a little concerned given their past with shooters?

I've played (and enjoyed) Heavenly Sword, and I've also played (and enjoyed) Enslaved. There are also a couple of reviews for Enslaved out too. But they come to the same conclusion I expected. The combat is simple and shallow.

Sure, maybe they can suddenly make a great combat game out of nowhere. But to tell the concerned people to STFU is being unreasonable. The worries are not unfounded.

Good on you Nick. It's a shame that most people are going to hate something new even if it does make things exciting and fresh again and it's not like the old Devil May Cry's will cease to exist once the reboot comes out. Apparently there are people (I know of one, which means there are more) out there who are already writing off Skyoshock as "dumb" and/or "gay".

You can tell me to shut up all you want, Nick. It doesn't change the fact that Dante looks like a hipster crackwhore.
Change is good, yes. But this is not change for the better. Don't fix what ain't broken.

I also don't think that it is correct to judge this game yet. There clearly isn't enough information to build a conclusion on the game. Also no one can say that this game will be shallow because of the developer's previous games. The only logical conclusion from their previous projects is; This game will be better than their previous, under the premise that the developer has more experience.

I won't write off this game, and I won't acknowledge it as a game until I see a game and not a two minute teaser trailer.

Change can be good, obviously, but it too can also be boring. Ironically so, seeing how the idea of change usually promises so much, yet it has a habit of delivering so very little. When it comes to Devil May Cry, I couldn't really care less, but having different developers taking over already established IPs with the intent of "changing it up" has always seemed rather tacky to me. Who are the people who should decide whether or not a series need change? and what those changes should entail? ...In the case of Devil May Cry, not Ninja Theory. Being repellant towards change and catching an early whiff of the turd of mediocrity are two different things.

As a big DMC fan, I will admit that I was upset when I heard about the reboot and redesign. But when I thought about it for a while, I realized that I should wait until the final product is out so I can judge it fairly.

For now, I am waiting to see how the gameplay turns out, and how the personality of the new Dante will be. Even though I still don't like the redesign, if they make it up by giving Dante a cool personality, I think I can look past the whole crack-head, emo look that they have right now.

There's a difference between voicing reasonable concerns.....and jumping to conclusions while stating those concerns as FACT. The difference between "this could be" and "this is". Most of the posts of read on various message boards seem to fall into the latter category. Save the "END IS NIGH" bullshit until we actually see the game in action.

I am usually the most optimistic when it comes to games, so I as you can imagine I like to see change in games. But that doesn't mean I'll always love it.

If a game decides to "switch it up" a bit, then fine, go for it. But your gonna have to prove that the change is positive.

I would prefer the change if it wasn't so drastic. He has a different body type, different clothes, and different hair. His attitude might be the same, but I like the silly looked Dante a lot for a variety of reasons. I dislike some of the changes that they've made because I feel like they're deciding that old Dante wasn't cool. And he was. It's just really depressing. Great, rebooting the series. I didn't want that, but you know, whatever. Great, changing the style. Great, changing the character design. Most likely changing game play. Fine, I guess I don't like change. It's not like every DMC hasn't had a different type of Dante every game. It's just annoying. I don't trust Ninja Theory to make good game play at all. I only hope that the Capcom developers working with them can help that. Oh, great, they can make pretty games with cool cutscenes and story. I care more about DMC for the gameplay and the silliness/craziness of it all. A friend of me is always telling me that this is a new Dante, so they can do what they want. Yes, that's true. But the trailer that they first showed? Somewhat disappointing.

Kamiya himself did say that every Dante has been different from what he first created though. And that we should give this a chance. I'll try to play it, unless I get news that it is horrible from enough people. I just wish in a lot of ways that this wasn't DMC and that it was a new IP by them. That would have been cool. But so far, I just don't see anything that truly reminds me of DMC, past that cocky smile near the end of the trailer. They needed to focus more on showing how his personality is still there, since I don't feel that they really did a good job in that. They just need to work on gameplay and making sure that the game still has humor. DMC and DMC3 I know for sure had plenty of amusing parts, but were also quite serious. DMC3 was over the top and crazy and silly so much, but it was also quite serious when it came to his brother and the main story.

I think that if they don't put in humor or the things that make a lot of people love DMC, it might lose a lot. So I'm worried. I want this to be good. But I have no idea what to think.

Your missing the point Nick. We don't care about gameplay, it could be better then Bayonetta for all we care. We don't care about his personality, its probably going to be a combination of the pervious Dantes'. What we care about is his looks, which are clearly not Dante; thats whats bothering us.

"Instead of acting like this new game erases the existence of your beloved Dante and all the games that game prior, why not try something new and see if you like it."

Trying out new ideas is often risky, but at the same time it can be quite rewarding. From what I've seen thus far, I cannot judge the character design based upon his grungy look shown off in the trailer. If his personality and style is intact, it should be easy to overlook the simplicity of different clothing. So, it would be worthwhile to keep an open mind and not to close yourself off completely. Personally, I'm hoping they don't remake his whole personality to a point where the character is completely alien to those who have enjoyed DMC in the past.

Then again, going back to the 'boring in bed' commentary, being open minded and experimental could always lead to a situation where you're handcuffed, naked, to a bed frame. The other individual then steals your wallet, personal safe, and porn collection. There's always a possibility of that. So if you like being robbed blind, take risks!
