So Microsoft is coming out with a new 360 controller...why?

The new fantastic features are gray scale buttons and shiny features with a fancy new D-pad.  Apparently people have been complaining about the D-pad. Its new D-pad rotates to have a more pronounced + shape.  Personally I have never had a problem with the D-pad, I think it works fine.

The controller will only be available with a play and charge kit and retails at $65 coming out on November 9th.

Once again...why? I have a play and charge kit, I don't want to have to buy another one.

Apparently it will be on the PAX floor, so I'll see how to feels and if it's worth the extra money.

Everyone is hypothesizing that this is to fix the control so it works for Fighters.

Hardly anyone sane enough, given a choice, will use a 360 controller over a Playstation controller in any fighting game.

The 360 controller d-pad is an abomination. I would have sacrificed my first born child for this fix and its about time it came.

I haven't had issues either. But to be honest I haven't played the PS3 so I don't know how it fares in comparison.

I see this as Microsoft trying to get money by pretending they're improving their controllers. The D-Pad seems like a gimmick to me, and looks like it might control the same as the current one, despite the "modes" you can put it in. I guess we'll see.

    The old d-pad was shite.

None of the games I play really use the D-Pad anyway, so I could care less about the D-Pad change, but it seems like that's the only thing they're really changing. This new controller seems kinda pointless to me.

I laughed so hard when I saw the " NEW " controller.
I mean with a nail file and a half hour you would have the same effect on the old controller

Aww. I wanted a new controller, but I'm not paying 65 dollars for a change like THAT.

Wow... If you have problems using the D-pad for the controller... thats kind of pathetic...

Now all they need to do is release one with more durable analog sticks. The nubs on the sticks of all my 360 controllers have been worn down so far. I want everlasting nubs, damn it!

There was nothing wrong with the old d-pad. I have never had any problems with it....mainly because there are very few games where you actually need to use the d-pad. :/

I had problems with the D-Pad, pretty well every time I needed to use it. Menu navigation was the worst, something about the way the controller was set up had me hitting downward-left whenever I was trying to hit down or upward-right when I was trying to hit up. That doesn't sound too bad, but think of all the games where left and right operate as page-up/down buttons.

Still, I don't plan on dropping over two hundred dollars replacing my controllers to rectify the problem.

The problem isn't really the d-pad. The problem is the plastic shell around it.

It's not just the d-pad that's changed, the face buttons are now as gray as every 360 shooter game ever released
