The recently announced sequel to one of the biggest Xbox 360 games in Japan will feature both the aforementioned additions. It will also the further the story one year later. But can Namco really deliver on one of it's top franchises? Can it give the fans what they want, while retaining the original formula for success? Check out the trailer to find out...

So obviously, this isn't the game you were maybe thinking of. If you made it this far, one thing really quick before you leave, what's up with Namco-Bandai. What franchises do they really have left? And which ones sell well enough that they can rely on them? I'm a little worried about their future.

So back to more important things. I don't like getting pegged as the music guy or the Japan guy. To be perfectly honest, I've never really played Idolm@ster. I can't read Japanese. So when people freaked out and told me that this game was coming out, I was kind meh about it. I'm still not going to be able to play it even though I now have a Japanese 360.

But what I am excited about.

New Songs. I have the soundtrack for the original and the live Idolmaster games. They were the best part for me being an JPop fan. It's really well produced music and catchy as hell.

New Characters. Just from the trailer, I've noticed at least two new characters. There may have been a third but it may be Makoto with a new haircut.

Music Ranking. Instead of just having a ranking or a number representing fans made, it looks like there's a Pop Music Chart which will be the way to measure your progress.

Take it easy,
David

PS - Please excuse the soft body comment. I'm not doubting that it is in the game. It's just one of the weird creepy things about Idolmaster.

The game looks interesting, but it's really not my type. I have never been sold on idol or a music game including rock band along that genre.

I guess Namco-Bandai are still trying to milk all that's left out of Tekken, but I think they will stay around for a bit considering the amount of money they had to have made from Pac-Man; other then that they are attempting to make more Naruto or Dragonball Z games that aren't that great.

To touch upon what you said I can see the draw of getting a bunch of new catchy upbeat songs, I only wish some of the music I listened to was put in games.

Well, there's not a lot of "big hitters" left in Namco-bandai that interest people. Kind of a shame that in the U.S, these type of music games are shunned to death because of the so called "girly-girly" atmosphere it displays. All they want is more "Americanized" types of music games (don't get me wrong, they're fine except for guitar hero) with the dark and "epic" in-game personas.

What I don't get is why do some people become "disgusted" when they're seeing something like Idolmasters.

Don't worry about NamcoBandai. Maybe it looks like they don't have many franchises they can reliably profit off of on the Namco end, but Bandai is the big licensing whore. They'll always be able to pay the bills cranking out stuff like Naruto games/toys/vibrators.

I love how it only took one year for them to decide that that's all it took to add jiggle physics. On a more serious note, it does seem like a lot of companies have been merging lately. There's still several newer contenders that keep going on strong though, and I can only hope that more new ones will outweigh the mergers.

I have to agree with you David, I love Idolm@sters music and adorable characters to the point where my PSP is full of their videos and songs and lately I have been seeing more of these Idolm@sters 2 trailers pop up around the internet and all I can say is that I am really happy... that is all :3

I saw the Bandai Namco logo
I read "New Characters" and got excited for soul calibur
then I read "New Songs" and then I was like D: not soul calibur...
still if they release new songs with this game I'll probably go listen to them.

Well david by the trailers this idol master seems to have a story that we can all enjoy if its subbed?? or skyliner can translate. The real fun will be your own commentary as you "produce a idol team " damn that sounds prevy.
