I don't know how it happened but somehow they messed it up. They managed to take a great formula and instead of adding the polish and gloss it needed, they mutated it and distorted it, almost to the point where it's unrecognizable.

I'm of course talking about Crackdown 2. A game which it's original design was implemented by Real Time Worlds and who's sequel is being handled by Ruffian Games. While I'm not as harsh as Brad on the second studio, I can definitely see his points about how the game has changed for the worse. I don't see these as "Fear of Change" gripes either. It's pretty transparent that certain elements such as draw distance, heads up display, and mission structure have been scaled back. In addition the new features such as renegade orbs, melee combat and "the freaks" antagonist feel poorly handled.

The one most positive change I can take out of last night's sampling is that driving has been made much easier to level up. But for what reason? What upgrades do you get for focusing on that skill set? In the original game, your vehicle could transform. Dependent on the vehicle it could become this large super monster truck or it could be become this small and nimble car able to drive up walls. Those aspects have been taken out of the sequel.

I still want to point out, I still rather early into the game but these are reasons why you should fear a different studios making the sequel to a beloved game. What's even more disappointing is that Ruffian Games was started by people who left Real Time Worlds. I don't have the time to go into more specific details in this post, but you can be assured, we will be talking about this on the show this week. I'll break down the entire game if there's time for it.

It's always extremely disappointing to hear when a company destroys a sequel to a beloved game for no reason at all.

David, you unlock new vehicles when you level up your driving skill, and eventually do get a supercar.

It's not as cool as the agency cars transforming to bigger and better, but they still give you those vehicles.

This is kinda of nitpicking but if you begin to drive a car you can not change the radio station while in the car which angers me the most when i want to listen to something other than the head guy of the agency and i cant even have a choice of music

i dont know it just seems ruffian games made the wrong choices to make it feel like a sequel

That's exactly the feeling I got just from the demo.

I also noticed while playing the demo that, the game just feels clunkier than the original. Little, tiny things like the inability to jump in any direction other than up while running on stairs, and how the way they handled auto-aim makes me constantly zoom in on a barrel instead of a person, are just small changes that make the experiance feel worse.

I like the freaks concept as now I have a lot of a#s to kick when cheaply armed thugs aren't doing it to me...if only the draw distance from where they spawned wasn't o bad, it could've been done very nicely like left 4 dead zombies..only more mutated and f*cked up.

The Jumping was very disappoint as it was in the first one. I'm not gonna bag on the first one because that jumping was just pioneer: it deserved to be bad so the devs an learn how to make it more fluid and better, but they failed and left it as is...lazy development I say

This time around they should have made it so you can customize your Agent...another form of lazy development is that instead of making it a customizable thing, the give you some characters and different color pallets.

Ruffian Games....I am Disappoint....2k Marine and Ruffian Games are not fit for sequels

It's a real shame that this game didn't improve. The developers had such a great timing period in which to release this game. With all the emphasis on story driven games, it would have been nice to see a good ol'e fashin, sand box, beat em up that was actualy good.

I'm so glad I didn't preorder Crackdown 2. While I enjoyed the original, I got it a year or so after its release for around 20 bucks. From what I've read, it's little more than a 60$ expansion pack that took 3 years to come out.

I thought about getting the game. But seeing you play it gave me the opinion not to get it. Just because of the game play hasn't' changed that much, plus I honestly didn't care for the original.

There really wasn't any improvement made to this one compared to the first and the missions are very simple. But I will say I am still having fun blowing stuff up with my friends.

Also I might be wrong, but doesn't the staff of Ruffian largely consist of people from Real Time Worlds?

sounds to me like a bioshock 2 effect, while the new game improved on a lot of parts, it wasn't anything substantial, and was a sequel we didn't really need.

Unrecognizable?!?!?! Its the EXACT same game as the first, which is rediculous in and of itself, if you mean someone could be playing this game and mistake it for the first than yes, it is INDISTINGUISHABLE, but not unrecognizable.

The worst part was all the damn platforming and how you couldn't reach the shit you needed to unless you spent a few hours orb hunting.

But hey, I just noticed that when you do the Radar thing (UP on the D-pad) any orbs in the vicinity are permanently marked on your orbs map in the pause menu. That's pretty neat.

The game centainly didn't do a lot to distinguish itself as a full blown sequel in a graphical and control type aspect (they even took away the agencies car transformations) but ruffian games did add quite a few new aspects to the game, although some of them do feel like they weren't fully realized(probably from such a short development period). A few examples of a few added features would include the renegade orbs, glide suit, charge ability, line grenades(ones that stick stuff together), UV shotgun, Helicopter, and of course the 4 player co-op and 16 player multiplayer.

*The story of the game is rather uninspired and gets very repetative with its 9 missions or have you do the same thing over and over.
*The renegade orbs would have been better if the camera and control was improved.
*And I do feel that there should be a system to track how many orbs are left in a certain area( having 499 of 500 agility orbs and painfully trying tho find that last one)
*kind of an ugly game(graphically it feels dated)
    ^things I hated
    *4 Co-op is a blast.
*16 player multiplayer is fun but can be a clusterf*** at times.
*orbs are still addicting to obtain.
*glide suit and helicopter are great additions in my opinion.
    ^things I liked

David I suggest that you stick with it, definitly play it co-op style, and even though most of the problems from the first game are still there, so are alot of what made the first fun... lol, over all its really just more of the same with multiplayer and a few added gadgets.
