The original Force Unleashed was a strange creature. As a game, it had trouble standing apart from other hack-n-slash adventure games like God of War and Devil May Cry and was easily the shallowest in the genre. The gameplay was fun but the lack of character customization and sheer skill required to be good at the combat left a lot to be desired. On a more positive note, the story of the game was probably the best told Star Wars story since Return of the Jedi.

Come October, Lucas Arts will continue the story of Star Killer, Darth Vader's secret apprentice, as he turns his back on his former master. The story looks to take a page from the Clone Wars era of the universe and hints that Star Killer will be forced to fight clones of himself! Sure, it's been done before but something about the Star Wars Universe makes it all the more compelling to me. My only hope is that they flesh out the story, beef up the gameplay, and deliver a game that is all around better than it's predecessor.  Perhaps I can get some hands on time next week if it is playable at E3 but until then, feast your eyes on this beautiful trailer.

2 Things I want to say before you watch this:

  • Lucas Arts... i'm talking to you!  If this cutscene does not appear in the game or on the disc with the retail copy of this game, shame on you!  You obviously spent a ton of money on this trailer, so make use of it!

  • Secondly, I almost wet my pants when I heard the "Duel of the Fates" start to play...

Hmm, story should be interesting here. Vader knew how powerful he is, he wouldn't trust stormtroopers to finish him off. Seems like a test of skill.

    Vader is GLaDOS

I'm glad at least Nick is looking forward to this game. I felt like I was in the minority of being excited for this game when nearly everyone in the comments of Kotaku's post of this trailer were hating on it

Oh jeez, why do I feel like I've read this before? I hope Force Unleashed doesn't get too much praise for it's story, considering how short, simple, and weird it is.

Either Vader's getting really sloppy (half a dozen stormtroopers?) or, yeah, part of some big plan.

The FMV sure is nice, but won't matter if it plays like a dog. I never picked up the first game, but I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

Hope not all the game is quite so black though, pretty unremitting colour scheme there.

    I'm excited.

They've had time to improve, and hopefully the mechanics are a little more fluent this time. Combos are great, but being able to chain and invent your own is really what I wanted out of the original game.
The story wasn't exactly brilliant, but it certainly surpasses the recent three Star Wars films.
The only thing that could top this would be Knights of the Old Republic 3.

I'm hoping the fix overall the clumsiness the last game had. Some examples of what I mean:
-They put the most effort/moves on a difficult to do combo that only hurts one guy and doesn't work on bigger enemies.
-There were enemies that could only really be hurt by one power, but it took more than one full bar to kill them, slowing down gameplay.
-If you mess up on a QTE, you get knocked back and the whole thing starts over in a blatantly-choreographed manner.

Overall, it was a good game though, and I'll be looking forward to this one. I also hope they continue the alternate storyline of Starkiller as the Emperor's private assassin.

This trailer makes me juice my pants, but until i see some gameplay i can't say if i'll buy it or not...
And i'll also need confirmation that there isn't another 'BRING DOWN THE STAR DESTROYER' sequence, that is a must-have for my heart to be content.

The trailer looked great, yet the cinematic seems to only serve the purpose as a trailer, so I doubt we'll be seeing this on the retail copy unless there is a "see trailers" option. On the game itself, I really seemed to love the first game for some reason, and I look forward to seeing some gameplay.

Damn, that trailer looked bad ass. Then again, so did the trailers for the first Force Unleashed. I'll wait to see some gameplay before I get excited.

Also, why couldnt the prequel movies have been this way? This one trailer was already better than all three combined. :P

I am excited for this game, I thoroughly enjoyed the first one, even though I never got to finish it since someone deleted my file for it while I was in Ireland. I will get it.

The first game was one of the biggest disappointments of all the games I have been disappointed by.. this trailer was better than the whole game ^^

When "Duel of the Fates" started playing, I almost creamed myself as well. Twas an excellent trailer and CG clip. I was actually impressed by the movements and detail of this particular CG clip. I've always been able to really tell when things are fluid and anatomically correct and etc and when they are not. I forgot I was watching CG a couple of times. This is the sort of grade I expect out of the industry today, and it was lovely.

On a side note, I'm also crossing my fingers for this game. I've played the first, and enjoyed it, even though I'm not a big Star Wars fan. The universe, characters, and mechanics could really be amped up and make for an incredible experience. I'm greatly looking forward to more news, and hopefully positive news :)

If you look past the flaws mentioned by J52 SWFU1 was in my opinion a really great game, although I have a really soft spot in my heart for star wars. I really didn't have much to complain about for the first one, tons of collectibles and stuff to search for in the game, gave you a pretty big sense of power in the jedi/sith in multiple points in the game and had enough flashy tricks to keep me occupied for it. Being able to explore places like the Death Star and all with updated detail to previous games was also a very big plus for me.

Now then onto the 2nd game... I'm expecting a lot from this, maybe a better good/evil customization that effects the storyline somewhat severely based on your choices? If you go to evil you lose out on benefits that jedi get even if you later proceed to start being good or it takes twice as much, drains your evil side powers a bit maybe idk just something that prevents you from being 100% both because well you aren't supposed to be able to be both! (new game + that lets you get both 100% for replay's sake though?) Incorporate some things like that at least. Update the combat a bit maybe make it more RPG than hack n slash. Man now I'm just trying to turn this into KOTR aren't I?

I am wondering how they are going to make the end of the first one work with this game seeing as you aren't the robotic sith assassin in it. If it takes place during the clone era Sidious should still be alive as well as Vadar to fit into the official "canon" of Star Wars which would be impossible with the first FU wouldn't it?

Interesting things to think about, none the less I am really pumped for this one.
