Let the E3 trailers begin...

I am horribly split when it comes to the new Spider-Man game from Beenox... It looks like it could really be the worst thing to happen to Spider-man games since.... well... Web of Shadows. Here we have a relatively unknown and unproven (at least among "hardcore" gamers) developer handling a beloved IP that has never had a lot of luck in the realm of gaming. On the other side of the coin however, I am really digging the approach to marketing and revealing the different universes a bit at a time. I definitely applaud the team for putting a unique spin on an established formula.

The new trailer, debuting Spider-Man 2099 as the 3rd universe, is awaiting you after the jump.

While I am initially devastated by the lack of open-world swinging in Shattered Dimensions, I think there is something to be said about this approach. Meaning, if Beenox is choosing to avoid unknown territory (open-world design) and focusing on their core competencies, whatever they may be, then this just may not turn out to be that bad. Any thoughts?

While I believe that open world swinging, especially in the 2099 dimension, would be awesome, I also agree that they should avoid it if it isn't one of their strengths.

The bits of gameplay they showed seem to be pretty great. I just hope it feels like you're playing as Spiderman and not some guy who has sticky ropes in his hands. I also hope that there is enough exploration in each of the dimensions. It would be a shame if the main selling point of the game ends up taking away from the experience.

So far I'm liking what I see. Despite the fact that I'm not too familiar with the different Spiderman dimensions (I'm somewhat familiar with the Noir dimension but that's it).

This game looks promising...but so has every trailer for every spiderman ever. The one thing that was severely lacking from every spiderman game (amongst alot of other things) was COMBAT. Nobody can quite figure out how to properly approach the combat for spiderman. Hes extremely agile and thats the key component. Batman AA was successful because Batman felt like Batman. Pure and simple. People want to feel like the superhero they are playing as. I would have loved to see Kamiya get this game. I think the DMC/ Bayonetta formula would work beautifully with spidermans style. The quick and agile but still fluent and acrobatic style.
They can set this game in a white padded room for all I care, its all about the COMBAT.

Shattered Dimensions? More like God of ...WEB! Just kidding (kinda).

From that last part of the trailer, it looks like there's no doubt now about the last dimension being some kind of symbiote dimension. I'm dissappointed to be right about that.

Dammit I wanted Marvel Zombies not another symbiote one.

Just like Scifi said my interest is peaked as well but it's very difficult for any developer to take a beloved superhero and produce a game that satisfies people because everyone has preconceived ideas of the way their beloved hero should be handled, what type of gameplay it should have and what setting it should be in. So it's impossible to satisfy the rabid fans who expect perfection. With all those things working against you it's very difficult to live up to the hype that naturally comes with a superhero game like this one.

This game seems to rely heavily on the separate characters. Even though they have the same set of powers, the settings that they live in should effect their personalities which looks fresh for Spider-Man. The Spidey in the early 20th century dimension comes across as more of a rebellious hero than Peter Parker.

I'm also hoping if their are any sadistic villians in this game. I usually root for a good bad guy.

I've always been interested in the Spider-Man universe- I remember playing both the first and second Spider-Man game for the PlayStation 2 (The second game being the best by far.) Having three other doppelgangers to interact with the original sounds interesting enough, so I'm sold just to find out the overall story. However the lack of openworld swinging (which was great for the second game) would be a HUGE downfall, I agree. I'll just have to sit and wait and see how this'll turn out.

I Love Spiderman Games but This whole sybiote thing is getting old, i really thought that they were onto something with Spiderman 2 but obviously they want to go much darker in their storylines.

That's actually a really cool addition. The 2099 dimension offers a cool cyberpunk contrast to both the Amazing and Noir dimensions. I'm officially keeping my eye on this.

As long as they can weave in a catchy story then all will be fine. I'm digging the original concept.
