top5

Sure, there have been lists about timeless games before. But we can all tell what had already become timeless. Now it's time to look towards the future and talk about the games that will still be played ten years from now.

Just finished listening to. After hearing Brad's take on WW, i have to say i agree with him on certain things about it, mainly the drawn out feel of some things (even in a speed run, it took the person an hour and something just to sail from point to point as fast as they could) but i still think of it as a game that will be easy to get into even years from now.

David, a quick word about KOTOR's light-saber. You also got to chose secondary crystals that stat boosts to it. Like increased blaster deflection, Damage and other stuff like that.

Great podcast. I've been trying to come up with games you might have missed and it's pretty hard. One that I think will be timeless is Metroid Prime.

Some may argue that the unusual controls will be a stumbling block, but the controls were already unlike other games when it came out and that didn't stop people from loving the game then. Also, since the controls are tailored to an adventure/fps fusion that we don't see in other games, I doubt there will be great strides in controlling a game like this in ten years, unlike a war based fps for example.

As for graphics, they may not be the most technically proficient but I think they lend the game a great atmosphere, especially in the snow area and the underwater crashed ship. Plus the game does some neat things with the visor effects.

An honorary mention for me is Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes, the gameplay in that is timeless, but it has pretty lame art style and let's be honest, nobody is going to remember that game 10 years from now (as sad as that is).

Sorry for double post but I totally forgot the most important thing about Metroid Prime: it has the solitary exploration/unlocking areas with new items gameplay that is completely timeless. It's these same hooks that make Super Metroid one of the easiest games from the previous decade to go back to and enjoy. The Metroid Prime Franchise is one of the only series that has been able to translate this idea into 3d.

To Jalabhar, i made a top 5 list on this a little bit back and I agree, Metroid prime has so many features and mechanics that will last a long time, the first person platforming alone is enough for me to name in the top 5 and the simplicity of the gameplay makes it more accessable as time goes on.

I know you guys aren't big PC gamers, but I know that there are a lot of them within the community, So for their sake and my own I'm going to say Team Fortress 2 defiantly deserves to be counted with these games, and may even out last Counter Strike. Its a game that I can imagine picking up in 20 years and having the same types of fun that I do now. Its already got a huge amount of post release content and it shows no sign of slowing down at all. Plus its art style means that it may endure longer even than some of the more popular shooters of today. TF2 is a hit and one that will stick around for quite some time IMO.

I'm somewhat shocked that no one, not even Brad, mentioned F.E.A.R. on their lists or even the honorable mentions. I have heard Brad say that F.E.A.R. is one of the finest shooters out there and with some of the best AI in any FPS. I would definitely have F.E.A.R. as top candidate for a #1 spot for a list like this. But thats just my opinion
