Dinnertime with Super Mario Galaxy 2?! Sign me up for the Entree, very curious on David's impressions/views on going into SMG2, seeing as he wasn't the biggest fan of the first one in the series, which I had found the best 3D Mario made to-date.

I don't think that people with an actual vision for their games will ever be completely out of work, no matter how poorly their games sell. Look at people like Tim Schafer, Hideki Kamiya (mentioned in the show), even Suda51 (though he does some cash-ins). They are doing just fine, people want to publish their games and see what they are working on. The fact that they make distinctive games seems to far outweigh any problems they have with sales.

Also, to say that the main thing that is holding someone is techincal limits or budget limits just rings false to me. A truly great designer and team could work within those limits and make something interesting. We see this happening all the time. Does this happen with these huge corporate structures we see? No, usually it does not. If anything is to blame here it seems that is the problem, not the limits. Kamiya, Suda51, and Schafer each, more or less, have their own studios--I don't think that is a coincidence.
