Word was released from EA today that The Sims 3 is in development for the XBOX 360, PS3, Wii AND the Nintendo DS...the latter of those being the coolest of all.

I've played a lot of The Sims 2 on the PC years ago and you really have to have respect for a game that makes people take care of every ounce of minutia for a fake person while their own lives crumble and fail around them.  I think that handhelds, in particular, are a perfect medium for this type of game.  Have some time on the bus?  Make your sim have a meal. Waiting for the next stripper to get on stage? Time to take a hot shower Mr. Sim!

No word on a solid release date.

Its good that it has been confirmed, because although we won't get community mods, it will still be a great game for consoles.

At a guess, I'd say it'll play a lot like The Sims: Bustin' Out on the GBA. I enjoyed that game. Maybe I'll pick this up.

I tried Sims 2 on GBA, it seemed like a shovelware-y mingame fest. This might be worthwile, I need to look into it later. However, The Sims has been always been best on PC for the sheer number of skins, mods, objects, and hacks people make for it.

this is going to be interesting considering the core mechanic of the sims 3 is the most interesting:open world free roam :) What says you handheld sims: full free roam world or old school outdated stuck to 1 lot sims2 gameplay?bring it :P

Oh wow I remember playing the sims bustin out on the ps2 as well; had a lot of fun with that game back then. I love all the sims games for some reason, even if EA shamelessly money grabs with the expansions. I'll probably pick this up for the 360.
