There are a lot of people who are getting really hyped for "Castlevania": Lords of Shadow. And while I completely understand why someone might decide a game is awesome based on one highly edited trailer, I have been more than skeptical of this project from Mercury Steam (developers of Jericho).
But the purpose of this post, and my Revival Club choice, is not to discuss my (well warranted) fears about the project; but instead to address a different problem that has surfaced since the announcement of Lords of Shadows. In an effort to justify the existence of a "re-imagining" and the confusing absence of Team Igarashi (who has been working on Castlevania since Symphony of the Night), people have been throwing around this horribly inaccurate statement: "All previous 3d Castlevania's have sucked anyway." The truth is, few people have actually played the PS2 Castlevania games -- especially Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.
I have played through this game to completion, but the goal of this choice is to get some of my colleagues and the 4pp Community playing this game. Castlevania: Curse of Darkness is certainly a flawed game (and arguably worse than the previous 3d iteration, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence), but I'm choosing this game for a couple of reasons. First, I know fewer people played this game as opposed to Innocence. Secondly, this game has a lot of really cool systems and mechanics not seen before in other Castlevania games. The bottom line is, with a bigger budget and a better level designer, this game could have become the new standard for what a Castlevania game is in 3d.
Castlevania: Curse of Darkness can be obtained relatively cheaply on both PS2 and Xbox. I'm sure your local used game store has copies of the PS2 version lying around.
Also, enjoy the fantastic soundtrack in this game while it lasts. The talented composer Michiru Yamane (again, who has been working with Team Igarashi since Symphony) left Konami back in January of this year. While this news is certainly devastating for series fans, it is also telling of the potential current state of Team Igarashi. Is Team Igarashi being dissolved? If they were working on a game, surely we would have heard something from them by now?

Well, I'm certainly interested in listening to the show. I'm gonna pick up a copy, if I can find it for cheap.

I'll pick up a copy if I can find it for relatively cheap.
I don't know if this game is rare in the UK or what, but the only copy I can find used costs the equivalent of almost $30... But maybe I'll just have to shell out and go for it anyway haha.
Can't wait for the show, regardless.

I actually have this on Xbox. While it is flawed, I actually enjoy this game quite a bit. in fact, I might pull it out and play it for the show.
The demon forging is actually a really nifty system.

If I can get hold of a cheap copy I am up for giving it a go, and it will be interesting for me because I haven't actually played a castlevania. Looking forward to this one Brad

As I finished reading this post I stared down at my shirt and realized who graced it. None other than Alucard of Symphony of the Night.
Now I'll be honest here, what originally drew me to the Castlevania series as Ayami Kojima's art. And I didn't start playing until Lament of Innocence and from there went to Curse of Darkness. Honestly, I enjoyed them both. The music is what enthralled me the most about the first game. I even have the songs on my iPod. The gameplay itself wasn't stellar, but it was enough to keep me satisfied. Curse of Darkness was a different ballgame though. I really enjoyed the new mechanics (demon forging), but as Brad already suggested, the level design and etc was lacking.
Did I enjoy the game anyway? Absolutely.
Do I think this game would vastly improve from a bigger budget and better level design and etc as Brad also suggested? HELL YES!

I've had it on my shelf for years. Played 4 hours of it and let it collect dust. Maybe this revival will finally get me to give it another chance.

I actually had this about 2 years ago. It was fun but i stopped playing for awhile and tried to pick it up again from where i left off and couldn't figure out what i was doing. I might have to repurchase it for the Revival Cast.

Not to be rude or anything, but is there really any point to these "revival casts" that never happen anyways? >_>

Matt, big difference with this one. This one's being hosted and organized by Brad, rather than Nick. This one might actually see the light of day.

whatever happened to parasite eve 1 and 2? I'm still waiting for that revival podcast.
In fact whats happened to your weekly top 5 video game podcast? Are you guys just not doing those anymore?

Well, this is a Revival Club game I won't have to go searching for, much less beat, since I already have a copy and beat it 2-3 years ago, so it's pretty fresh in my memory. Plus I'm lazy anyways.
