Travis and David return to Texas and join us in the "studio" for this weeks episode! We traveled to Houston Texas this week to attempt our first panel at Anime Matsuri, a local Anime Convention and it was an interesting experience to say the least. There weren't many games to be played but that won't stop us from discussing them. We get our impressions out of the way quickly so that we can discuss two of Nintendo's upcoming hits, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M. This week also marks the beginning of what may become a regular segment on the show as we read and respond to comments left by the community about Metroid. Enjoy it and we will catch you next weekend!

Will all four of you be there? If so, or even if not, I'm going to watch. Can't wait!

I'm trying to find the clip on the previously recorded stuff, but without people actually naming the things with say "Podcast 163" it's a lot harder. :(
And yes, I'd rather watch the clip instead of just listening, because then I can watch their beautiful faces, and all other funny things that happen on tape. :P

@Mega
There's no clip of the recording of show 163 since JTV lost the footage on that day.

oh nick, if you still want to play the metroid games, start off with Zero mission first. its by far the easiest to get into of all the other games. The play prime 1 on either the gamecube or wii. it really isn't any different but you can get the gamecube version for $4 now adays.
And if you have a ds, play Metroid prime hunters, just for the experience of what it is like when they experiment with the metroid formula. its not a lousy game but its probably the worse of the metroid games so if you play that, you will understand why some people are worried about the metroid other M.

I enjoyed the reading of the comments, that should be done again. Also, it is nice to have a shorter podcast. Trying to listen to all of a greater than two hour podcast (from anyone) gets tiring and I usually lose interest before the end, but that could just be me.

Might just be you school, I enjoy the long podcasts, but shorter ones are great too.

I enjoy the shorter ones more but the guys aren't really structured in their podcasts so it can go on for a while but at the same time, its that unstructuredness that I like about 4pp. they talk about things how they would talk about them in real life.
anyway, looking forward to the next podcast.

Right zekana, I thought this one was a good mix of unstructuredness (like David shaving) and good conversations about video games with Nick moving the conversation along, making sure it doesn't stall out.

Davids (I presume) breathing was pretty damn annoying!! Other than that - good show.

This segment should be done again as long as you still do viewer questions when you do it

Another Job well done, although I preffered Metroid prime 2 rather than the first, mainly because I played 2 first

I'll agree with dd - the breathing is annoying.
I'd like to say that I agree with Travis. I much prefer if a game isn't overtly stating, "Oh, you fucked up, enjoy your bad ending at the end of the game." I don't understand Brad's argument, though.
It sounds a lot like he's making a case in FAVOR of black and white, "this will give you good endings, that will give you bad endings" systems that are overtly clear, and then you make the decisions in your game based on that. It sounds like Brad wants a system like Bioware's binary morality in Mass Effect, but instead of being a Paragon or Renegade, they just tell the player, "good ending/bad ending."
And that, to me, seems dumb. I much prefer if a game isn't telling me that I fucked up. If I make my decisions how I want them made because the game isn't telling me that I'll get a bad ending, I feel much more involved with it, than if I'm simply picking an option because I want the good ending.
That said, I do understand the argument of Metro 2033 having done it poorly. Taking bullets when they're offered to you resulting in a bad ending seems a little ridiculous. However, in its defense, it does make the player stop and think, "Do I need these bullets as much as this NPC?" It would have been done better, had the game explained that everything has an impact on the ending, and that players should think about everything they do.
What I mean is, just having your character's internal monologue (or another NPC, or whatever), tell you "Hey man, these people need the bullets more than us," is far too obvious, and that's what it sounds like Brad is making a case for, to me. I'd much prefer if Metro had set it up in a way that let you know that anything could have an effect on the story, and then told the player to think about every decision.

Yay my comment was read. It was good to finally hear what you guys were thinking about the game, and that stuff about getting crappy endings was a pretty good discussion too. Hearing about these endings has REALLY REALLY changed how Metro 2033 will be for me, I am seriously thinking for 2 minutes about 10 second decisions wondering if it'll affect my ending or not.
