It's no secret that I hold the Bourne franchise in high regard. I find the movies/books to be smarter than so many other action flicks out there. The character is on a whole different level than James Bond and he speaks to an audience that wants more from their movies than mere explosions and death. It was announced yesterday that Starbreeze studios, the team responsible for the excellent action/stealth game "The Chronicles of Riddick" would be cancelling either their reboot of the Syndicate IP, titled Project Redlime, or the next entry in the Bourne game series (rumored to be titled: The Bourne Ascendancy). According to the LA Times Blog, as of today, the Bourne title is in fact the game that got the axe. Consider me crushed.

Let us rewind to 2008 when High Moon Studios became the first studio to try to translate this IP into a video game. On many levels, the team succeeded but there were several design decisions that I feel set it too far apart from the films/books. The game was too jam packed with fighting and explosions which did more to make the game feel like a good Bond game than anything else. There was almost no emphasis on the things that make the character so interesting in the first place such as his resourcefulness, restraint, and inner desire to rid himself of his violent past. High Moon Studios wet my appetite for a good Bourne game but my real anticipation began when it was announced that EA had struck a 10 year deal with the Ludlum estate and that Starbreeze would be the first team to tackle the franchise.

It seems that this game will not see the light of day and the future of the Bourne game series is presently in limbo. It was added that EA and the Ludlum estate plan to continue the series but when and who will develop the title are still up in the air. This does beg an interesting question however, which studio will EA give the next project to? Who do you think are the most likely candidates and who would you most like to see take a crack at Bourne and why?

StruckBrot, if it's your opinion and when you say no one, you are basically just referring to yourself.

Anyways, if I dont see news of such a thing on Kotaku or 1up, I wont believe it just yet.
I still have some hope that they didn't axe the next Bourne, but time will tell and I have a feeling we will know by the end of this week.

Give me a Bioware Jason Bourne game, that shit would be sweet, but thats just me salivating over most things Bioware poos out. But if anything, Alpha Protocol is what I'll go for when it comes to spy-based action RPG's, have a lot of faith in that team in both telling and writing a great engaging story.

you know what they should do? GO BACK AND ACTUALLY FOLLOW THE SOURCE MATERIAL! seriously, the movies are good i will admit, but that is not fucking bourne. Ive never seen a series stray so far from the plot from book to movie. The first 5 mins of the movie and book is the only thing the two have in common. I dont care who makes it, but follow the story from the books and i will be happy. im tired of completely wrong movie bourne

Alpha Protocol could be a good way to get your Bourne fix, that game seems to be shaping up quite nicely. I'm sure you could create a character with skills like Bourne would have, even role play as Bourne with your choices. Sounds like a NGJ article for Nick, chronicling his quest to play Alpha Protocol like Bourne would. I'd read that.

Yeah nick, I agree with school, Alpha Protocol looks really good. I'm really interested in that as well. Also dont forget, there is always Splinter cell: Conviction to get your badassery shifted into gear.

it was the bourne game or the new syndicate game that would have had to go, i'd rather be playing 4 cyborg robots with rocket launchers and chainguns.

i won't lie nick, when i heard they were axing either project leglime or bourne, i was worried for you. i was hoping it wasn't bourne, it truly is unfortunate. not because i really want another bourne game, but because you love the franchise so damn much.
