So you know how Sega said they only cut a few things when they finally got around to localizing Yakuza 3 for the West? I believe it was something along the lines of: "Host Clubs, some Japanese board games, and a quiz on Japan." Well, we have all been fooled. There have been people who played the Japanese version of Yakuza 3 who are now playing the US release that are keeping track of all the side quests that have been cut.

The following list, found over in the official Sega forums, is a list of the sidequests cut for the first 6 chapters (of 12) of the game. Cuts for Chapters 7-12 will be revealed in time as well.

Chapter 3, 4
I Wanna Go to Tokyo pt. 1
The Brewer's Treasure
Make the No. 1 Cabaret Club Girl!
English Conversation Solicitor step 1
English Conversation Solicitor step 2
Love's Cupid
Love's Cupid Continues
Love's Cupid Continues Again
A Trip Before Marriage

Chapter 5

Manga Artist Debut (Mangaka Debut)
The Runaway Phone Chat Girl (Terekura Iede Musume)
I Wanna Go to Tokyo pt. 2
Great Genius Showdown
Is she talking about me...?
Ayukawa Rina***

***You cannot date her. In the RGG3 you can date 10 girls, for whatever reason 1 of them didn't make it overseas.

Chapter 6

No cuts (!!!!!!)

If you have been following the neoGAF thread then you might be shocked to hear from the Japanese version players, just how awesome some of these sidequests are. Remember in the Japanese trailer where you find the girl on the streets and "pretty" her up. All that is gone. But these quests are not just host club related. There is a sidequest involving two returning characters from the previous games -- because that quest has been removed, those characters don't exist in the NA release of Yakuza 3. It appears they removed all quest lines with any "socially questionable" content as well. From what I read, three different quest lines involving the fairly common Japanese humorous take on the subjects of transsexuality, incest, and pedophilia, have all been removed. This is an M rated game, and we are losing out on some of the funniest quest lines because of censorship?

I'm still excited to play this game, but this is pathetic Sega. Although, I guess the cover art for the Western release makes a lot more sense now -- half a face for half a game. All things considered, maybe the game should have been half the price as well.

Wow that really sucks, I've been enjoying the game very much so, so far. But there is always that nagging feelng that I could be enjoying it even more so due to the cut content. I don't know if I feel right moaning about it, because honestly, its a wonder the game even got its western release, on the other hand however, at the end of the day Sega decided to actually translate the damn game "for the fans", so if you are going to do it, at least be decent enough to include everything, thats the reason why the few people who actually know about this game and are going to purchase it are buying it for in the first place!

Gee if Sega keeps this stupid shit up they'll become the 4kids of gaming. I think the Hayao Miyazaki stance needs to be taken in terms of cut content because it always comes off like EVERYONE in america cant handle it so they need to cut stuff, the mainstream cant but it's not like those people are going to be buying this in the first place

I don't know if this would be a farfetched idea but could the things that are cut out end up as DLC? The questionable content that got cut out could be marketed as "unrated" and "uncensored" DLC. This could be a way for Sega to make more money off a game that probably wont sell so well in the US.

Jesus people whining about cut content should be happy that we got that game at all, enjoy the game for what it is. With all this backlash even from the fans we probably won't even end up getting Yakuza 4 which is a damn shame.

Think of it this way, if it was back in early 2009 SEGA still weren't going to localise the game, but then said one day that would consider releasing a cut down version, wouldn't you be happy?

Sure it sucks that a few side quests and mini games had to get cut, but I'd happily pay that price. I'm still happy that they chose to localise the game at all.

Fuckin' hell. And I'm getting a PS3 tomorrow. This'll still probably be the first game I get, but it is kinda dumb to have to think "Oh, there's actually more things in this game, I just can't do any of them." Y'know?

Content getting cut hasn't made the game less fun for me. But Sega should have been more forthcoming about it. Anyway, I'm just happy I'm able to play Yakuza 3 at all.

I'm sorry but the "be happy we are getting it at all" argument just doesn't make sense. The game is still great I'm sure but that isn't the point. At what point do you draw the line? How can you be happy about paying full price, expecting the full product but getting less content?

Because the version we have is still worth the full price

They did drop the price by $5 to signify that content is cut (I agree they probably should have lowered it a bit more) but if you know where to shop you shouldn't even have to pay that. I ended up getting it for $45 which is a steal in my opinion.

It's a strange feeling. For any other game, I would be upset content was cut. But I knew what I was getting myself into so it didn't make too much of an impact on my enjoyment of the game. In the first two games, the side missions mostly consisted of running across the cities beating up people or finding something for someone with a little interesting sidestory revolved around it. The side missions weren’t all that important to me.

Now I’m only speaking for myself and not trying to defend Sega's decision. I completely understand why people loved the side stuffs and are put off by its removal. I just wanted to express that I’m still enjoying the game even with contents being cut out. Again, it is inexcusable for Sega to keep fans in the dark about this.

What is the point at which cut content does change your opinion of it being worth it? Is it just the main story remaining intact?

Get the game so sega knows there is a market for yakuza in the states. You'll love it inspire of the cuts, but make sure sega knows you want yakuza 4 uncut. Win win. Buy game, keep bitching.

TylDurden, I don't think Sega would care either way. I'm sure they only released it in the states to appease fans of the series in the US, but the fact that they intentionally LIED about the cut content will only further cement gamers' distrust in Sega as a relevant game developer.

If plot elements had been cut from the main story, I definitely would not buy this game. I've tried most of the side missions and activities in the first two games and got the most enjoyment from the main story and combat scenarios. It hasn’t changed from what I've played of the third one so far.

Cheese and whiskers. Sega really is trying their best to make the Yakuza series fail in America aren't they?

*Le sigh* Only thing we can do is still buy it and prove them wrong. Maybe we'll get Kenzan and 4 someday...

It's my hope that they'll patch in missing dialog sometime in the future... But I'm not holding my breath.

Yes School the main story and the combat (the most appealing things of Yakuza to me and a lot of gamers) is what matters most to me, naturally I would draw the line if they absolutely cut everything else (which would eliminate the point of having an open world). However there is still plenty to do in the game, I personally hated the hostess bars and did maybe a third of the side quests in Yakuza 2. Sure these things may matter a lot to you but you are still getting a quality game.

This is f*****g with the gamers. They had a god damn year to do this and still cut the best parts of the game! GOD! Why is this happening...

Oh and I got a special code for some in-game battles and s**t and guess what... It doesn't work...

Still the game is worth buying so Ill get back to the game and you guys go and buy it so we will get Yakuza 4 soon in FULL!!!

That's because you're a fucking moron who bases his opinion of a full game on it's demo, which doesn't do the game justice.
