This gaming "rainy season" is almost at its end! I am joined at the roundtable by Brad and Nolan to discuss more Final Fantasy XIII, God of War III, and hear Brad rant about his mixed feelings regarding Metro 2033 and Cave Story. After an unexpected discussion involving my 2D gaming history, we close out impressions with a hefty discussion of the Splinter Cell Conviction demo before touching on a few news topics and answering a viewer questions. Overall, its an interesting show with some insightful discussion and a lot of ground to cover. You better get started. O yeah, and if you are not a subscriber on iTunes, you will get the bad ending to this podcast in which we all become fed up with this industry and quit the podcast forever. I think you get my point.

    In response to Brad's question at around the 50 minute mark;

    The first games I ever played were on the Genesis, but the N64 is where I really got into playing games all the time like I do now. When the GBA remake of Final Fantasy 1 and 2 came out, I bought it, and loved it. Now, I can't say that I liked it as much as I loved, say, Paper Mario on the N64, but I think that's just because of how Paper Mario had a more charming setting, and an atmosphere of happy-fun-time, whereas Final Fantasy 1 and 2 took themselves more seriously, and, let's be honest, were a bit more bland. So, while I didn't like it as much as a game I had played when I was first getting into RPGs and whatnot, I did enjoy the first two Final Fantasy games a lot, and I think it boils down more to the story and setting of the games, rather than that the Final Fantasy games felt dated.

    Similarly, I didn't own a PSOne or Two until years after their releases, so I never had the experience of playing Final Fantasy Tactics or Dark Cloud 2, but I still hold both on a pedestal, despite that I hadn't fully played through them both until last year*. The same can be said for Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which I played at beat in February, and I enjoyed it more than I think I would have if I had played it when it was released, because rather than toss it out for being difficult, I enjoyed the difficulty (which I doubt that I would have at four years old).

    *That's not to say that I hadn't touched them before that, just to be clear. I just never completely beat them until then.

    Resident evil is no longer survival horror. As soon as they added ammo and heath drops it was a wrap. Its an action game now. The story even plays out like a summer block buster. Hell there is nothing to fear. The game has become pop and drop. I pop and they drop.
