MEEEEEEE!!

Why? Watch the trailer of three new fighters for Super Street Fighter 4 to find out.

Truth be told, I would have probably cared a hell of a lot more about Street Fighter 4 had there been at least one character I actually gave two shits about. Street Fighter 4 was mostly comprised of the old Street Fighter 2 roster and some pretty lame new character additions. The problem is that the main series has always had pretty weak female fighter designs -- and, as you may know, I fight almost exclusively with female fighters. Why? Eh... I've always been a pretty hardcore feminist.

And while I have never really played much Street Fighter 3rd Strike, I was always interested in a couple of the character designs. The one fighter that I would have used, provided I bothered to learn the game, was Makoto. She is small and female. But unlike every other fighting game cliche out there, she was not about quick pokes, chip damage, and weak combos. This girl's attacks are strong, deliberate, and brutal looking. She had maybe the strongest super in the game, and supposedly even has a two hit KO. Her animations are also extremely cool looking.

Here is a Makoto vs Chun Li match from 3rd Strike so you can get a better look at how she fights:

So I'm excited that she is back. On top of Makoto, Juri is another new fighter I wouldn't mind learning. These characters might be just enough reason for me to try to finally take Street Fighter more seriously. Though the one concern I do have for these returning 3rd Strike characters is the animations. SF3 was such a beautiful game with its ridiculously smooth flowing animations. These new characters might look a little off in the Street Fighter 4 art style.

Now for me to wait until everyone posts in the comments that Makoto is the hardest character in the game to learn. Yay.

Yeah I read about this in the PSTOM. SF is suppose to be releasing 8 characters in total for the new game. Its awesome cause all the characters in this video we just saw is in this magazine where they tell you what kind of martial arts they special in and a nice size bio. It also tells you what SF game they originated from. I cant wait for the game I think its going to be a nice addition to the SF series.

I'm afraid to say it but, Guy and Adon players will still destroy the old and new roster.

    Ibuki is back too! :D

My friend's favorite SF character is Makoto, he's a pretty hardcore fighter but I don't think she's too hard to learn. Practice makes perfect after all.

Meh I don't find Makoto that interesting (or most of the SF3 characters for that matter) but if she will convince you to buy SSFIV then I'm all for her being in it. Now Capcom just needs to make CvS3.

I actually held back from buying SF4 because, since this is Capcom and all, a Super or Special Edition would be coming along soon enough anyway. One which would iron out a few problems and make the roster bigger.

So yeah, I'm well up for this one.

But Makoto, man, she's the hardest character in the game to learn!

Damn, Brad. You weren't very excited about SFIV since you didn't understand how the game actually works, but you're more of a Tekken player from what I've seen on the broadcast. Anyways, it's great to see these Third Strike characters to this era (minus Alex, he's in TvC) with an upgrade to their movesets and animations. I LOVED Third Strike because of the smooth and silky 2d animations, but at that time it wasn't getting the attention it deserved back then as it is now.

Oh yeah, Makoto is most likely one character that isn't "beginner-friendly" since her moveset isn't "hadouken-hadouken-hadouken". It's more of a stun-friendly and technical type with a boost in power, which isn't bad at all (if you're playing as her).

"Eh… I’ve always been a pretty hardcore feminist." Pre-emptive high-fives and brownie points from the chick community.

I've played both a little of Tekken and SF, and I honestly can't pick between the two. They're constantly swapping out characters and I always end up picking the most difficult character to learn. I guess I don't have the patience to research into this sort of thing. Props to you on that, good luck on your SFIV adventures.

There were a few cool looking characters but some I will have to admit look rather uninteresting ecspecially Cody and Dee Jay who look rather generic but it certainly looks interesting altogether as a pack. Plus, I have to say that the music for that trailer was pretty awesome.

i dislike how we have to pony up for a full game, rather than DLC for those who already owned SFIV.

Is there a reason that you're a 'hardcore feminist'?

wj is right, but this is capcom lol. They sold us an unlock code for re5...

Probably won't be picking this one up. SF4 wasn't groundbreaking or fresh in any way imo so you won't be missing much if you stay away... The choice in cartoony 3d fighters wasn't my cup of tea either compared to tekken. Tbh the game felt like more of a step back... Even as a longtime fan of the series, I'm still not sure why it got so much praise.

I've felt alot of recent games have been overrated and they have me questioning alot of reviews/sites and the brown nosing/back patting these days. Their hasn't been much substance to the newer games these days, just pretty graphics, stupid game changes, and explosions which is pretty depressing in general for the industry...

Alpha 2 was when the SF was at the top of its game. I'd pick up the anthology for alpha 2 gold if you can find it cheap.

Actually, Makato isn't hard to master at all, since she is in fact a "God" tier character in Third Strike who has little to no bad match-ups or disadvantages. Her pokes are ridiculous and add insane amounts of stun, her normals and special moves rack up crazy amount of stun to the opponent, and her Abare-Tosanami is like a super hit confirm-able Raging Demon.

Anyways, she is a good character with a cool design, but I hope they've nerfed her and Dudley's juggles in this game. Having been in many SF4 tournaments and having played this game religiously since it came out, I really hope they did a good job of balancing the characters, since there are rumors of 8-2 matchups and talks of nerfing low tier characters while buffing high ones (I really don't understand that thought process).

But, I hope this gets you into SF, Brad, since it has the best fighting game scene and community I've ever been a part of (And I also play a shit load of Tekken.)

I'd have to agree the graphical approach for SFIV is not doing much justice for some of the characters...

Makoto looks a bit too bulky in my opinion. I like her concept art look a lot more.

As a person who mains Makoto in 3rd Strike, I was fuckin thrilled that they put Makoto into SFIV.

One of the main reasons I play Makoto is also one of her major strengths: Her ability to stun. A lot of Makoto's attacks have the incredible ability to stun, thus, if your playing a character that is easy to stun (say Akuma or Ibuki), then you had to make sure you did NOT GET HIT.

She also has a wicked Dash. Her normal walk (although smooth lookin) is incredibly slow, but she has one of the best dashes in the game. Her forward dash is far and quick, and her back dash is quick enough that she can quickly get out of certain attacks.

If they bring SSFIV to arcades, lord knows it's going to mean a lot more quarters at the cabinets (and the scene's pretty good as is o.O)

I'll stick with Tekken, I like the expansive roster in that better.

Even the new character additions don't bring SF close to the roster of T6.

Not to mention I love fluidity of Tekken combat.

    Absurd..
