Well I finished No More Heroes 2. There is much to be said about this game, but I will go in depth on the podcast and a future post. No More Heroes 1 was not my favorite game, and I still think Killer 7 is FAR better. With that said, No More Heroes 2 is far worse than the original game. I would trade a stone statue of break-dancing Joe Peci for even passable gameplay any day.

    I had the same problems with the Shinobu part. The jumping is bullshit.

    Your crazy bro. I wasn't crazy about the first one either, mainly because I was impatient and only gave it about 5 minutes but this one is serious GOTY material and until this game I HATED my Wii. I didn't watch the chick vid cause thats where I'm at in the game and I don't want to spoil but You seriously F-d up the prison part. I guess you just shouldn't play a game your not in the mood for. I didn't get spotted and I never have that much trouble fighting. Even though the buttons aren't easily accessible from a comfortable grip on the WiiMote the D-Pad does let you roll and dodge, coulda dodged a lotta bullets. Make good use of that lock on function and your golden. Personally I've found the game surprisingly easy so far and I chose normal (not easy). I like it though, it makes me feel like a bad ass. I love slicing people in half with the motion control. Dialog and art style are among the best I've ever seen in a game.

    This is painful to watch. YOUR DOING IT WRONG, and yes, there is a wrong way to play some games. I hated MGS3 the first time I played it cause I was playing it wrong. Once I learned crawling through the grass is just part of the game it became one of my all time favorites. I love you brad but you SUCK at NMH.

    Crawling through grass wasn't part of MGS3. You could go guns blazing in MGS3 and still make it through the game with out too much trouble.

    The game is obviously flawed. The camera is horrible and so is the jumping mechanics. The whole sneaking part looks dumb too. I can tell from the looks of it that you're supposed to not get caught and if you do the game punishes you by sending in a horde of gun guys to kill you. There are two ways this should have been handled. Either make it game over as soon as Travis gets caught so you can retry again at the last check point or make it possible to fight your way through all the guys and not send in a butt load of guys with guns to kill you.

    I just.. respectfully disagree with what you've had to say about the game. I, like many others, have enjoyed game, regardless of its flaws. I just have the patience for these little things and I'm willing to work around them, which made the game much more enjoyable for me. While I was disappointed about the lack of content the sequel held far off the first game, it didn't necessarily break the game. Nor do the sneaking or shinobu parts, which last for a couple levels. Once you get over that bump, it's pretty much smooth sailing. I enjoyed it. Lots of people enjoyed it. But please don't think we don't know poor level design when we see it.

    Hello 4pp cast, crew, and community:

    I will come right out and say that I am easy to pander to. I usually have a much more positive outlook when I critique games, usually finding enjoyment in simply relaxing and playing. That being said, I would not say I am ignorant of what makes a game bad to play, either, I just deal with it and focus on the parts I enjoy. I feel the NMH series is one intended for a small part of the gamer spectrum and can be considered a game of acquired taste, but for those select few, it is a noteworthy title.
    I loved NMH1. Now it had some problems, but to be honest I wasn't expecting much because it was on the Wii. I like to think that it was unrefined more than it was bad choices (of which there were, but I'll address that later). I despised Uncharted 1 for the same reason, a feeling of, "wow, this is kinda cool, but it could really use some work." (Except I could barely stand Uncharted, where I had a lot of fun with NMH)
    I was excited for NMH2, and had been thinking of NMH1 lately, almost wishing I had bought it instead of renting it. I had heard about the change to a menu used for destination travel, the 8-bit NES style games, and the improved combat, and I thought, "Perfect, they fixed everything." When I played it, my feelings of glee were turned to disappointment. I felt the parts that had largely been the success of the first game was cut out along with the rest of the fat. I heaved a deep sigh, then adjusted, and half-heartedly finished the game. The "Bitter" difficulty is much better, and I actually found that I had overlooked much of what this game has to offer. The game is supposed to have a much darker and different tone from the first game, it's called "Desperate Struggle" not "A Cookie-Cutter Copy of the First Game". I really enjoy playing it now, and look forward to logging many more hours. Again, I feel it is a matter of personal taste to a minority of gamers. I guess I'm just in that niche.

    Happy Gaming

    I normally hate when you rant and rant about a game, but after playing this, I completely agree. The camera, dodge system, and platforming and complete shit. If I didn't like the style/story, I wouldn't even play through this garbage. These people can talk all they want, but if this same exact gameplay was wrapped in a different package, the large majority would think it's trash.

    I'm not going to bother talking about all the shitty, repetitive retro minigames.

    Wow, people are saying I'm wrong and I haven't even gone into detail yet.

    And yes, I know that "stealth" sequence was done wrong. But the fact that the stealth sequence was even in this game is ridiculous. The game does not have the mechanics and controls to make a scenario like this any less painful. My point was to show you just 1. That this stupid sequence even existed. 2. How easy it was to get spotted. 3. How helpless you are once you do get caught. 4. How incapable your character is at dealing with people shooting at you from off screen. Those gun badguys are in most every level of the game. "Doing it right" or not, that shit was embarrassing. I'll talk more about it on the show though.

    @brad, the Z button not only locks on but blocks, had you not tried to run through the prison without locking on and fighting people you would not have gotten shot. YOU DID IT WRONG. love ya.

    @bloodgatts & @brad
    I don't feel the game punished you by sending a horde of enemies when you got caught. I thought it was gameover if you got caught so I didn't get caught, first time through. Now I wish I had gotten caught so I coulda split some heads and cut some limbs. I agree that the shinobu part was lame and clunky. I like this game for what it is and overlook the parts not as refined. You just have to be in the right mood/mindset to do this. Don't be offended brad, sucking at a video game doesn't make you any less of a man or gamer. It just means you probably shouldn't play games cause viewers/reviews tell you too unless your prepared to entertain by frustration. I couldn't get into oblivion or mass effect among other games cause I didn't have the patience to over look their shortcomings and I can't imagine forcing myself through them for someone else. One day I might be in the mood.

    First off all I'm pretty sure Brad is aware of the block button. Second of all, I've seen people block bullets in the game and it drains the battery of the sword like crazy. I can't see how you're supposed to dodge bullets flying from everywhere unless you constantly roll around, which isn't fun and you shouldn't have to do in the first place if they designed it correctly. And they game itself says "If you're seen, you're dead." Which means that they purposely designed it to make sure there's a high chance you're going to die if you get caught.

    Also, stop insulting someone and then telling them to not get mad.

    I'm not saying NMH2 is a bad game. I'm not trying to tell people not to play this game. I know that there a people who can still enjoy this game despite everything wrong with it. Just don't try and tell me that the flaws aren't there, because they are.

    I saw the sneaking part as the dev trying something new, and I can perfectly understand that with the complaints of the tedious gameplay from the first game. The sequence was really short and even I got it through on the first try, no problems. Sorry, but you just need the patience for this sort of thing. I don't see why the game wouldn't send hordes of enemies after you if you got caught. I mean, there are rules to abide by and breaking them shouldn't leave you off the hook. I don't mind that you hate/dislike the sequel, but I think you're hating it for some of the wrong reasons.

    I knew posting these videos without speaking in more detail about them was a bad idea. These were more laughably bad sequences, but hardly my only problems with the combat/design/controls. I will discuss more on this on the show, and possibly even a review.

    And that stealth sequence was still fucking terrible. My guess is Velvet Assassin would look good next to this. Liking a game is one thing, but defending every part of it including this travesty is bizarre.

    Saying I'm bad at the game because I didn't have the patience for a poorly designed sequence is also stupid. I beat pretty much every combat scenario in the game on my first or second try with the exception of an exceptionally bad boss form. But my guess is all the apologists will defend that as well.

    Make sure you are around for the show this week so you can see just how silly it is to criticize someone for disliking such a poorly design game. Before then, think hard about what makes games in this genre stand out. What the good choices, the bad choices, and the lazy choices are.

    I haven't been defending the game as much as expressing how well it worked for me and how it didn't work for you and possible reasons why. I haven't insulted anyone. I said he/you was/were playing it wrong. That's not an insult. There's nothing bad about that. He/you admitted to playing the prison sequence wrong and that's all I watched as I hadn't played the shinobu part yet and I didn't want any possible spoilers. Nobody should be offended here. 4PP is one of my all time favorite podcasts and I love the community. I would hate a simple discussion on how and why this gMe should be enjoyed to hurt anyones feelings or alienate anyone. Please don't be offended or insult me or say what I'm doing is "stupid". I'm sorry if you didn't like it and I realize that I can come across that way. Criticizing a game is fine and I understand. Yahtzees review of demons souls was waaaay off cause he was doing it wrong. He to was on a dead line and playng it for other people aside from the fact that his review style is to bash. Can't we all just get along.

    Telling someone "They're doing it wrong", especially in all caps pretty much is always meant to be an insult. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but it come off as an insult. And the only reasons I saw you give as to why Brad was having problems was cause he sucked at the game, and that he shouldn't be offended by that for some reason.

    We are also not really discussing how the game should be enjoyed, we're talking about universal flaws that everyone should be agreeing on, both the people that like or hate the game. The flaws that are tolerable for some, but game breaking for others. The things where if they took the time to fix, more people would have enjoyed the game and maybe the people who already do would enjoy it more.

    @Brad:

    "Saying I’m bad at the game because I didn’t have the patience for a poorly designed sequence is also stupid."

    And

    "Make sure you are around for the show this week so you can see just how silly it is to criticize someone for disliking such a poorly design game."

    You might want to be a bit more clear about if you think the entire game or just one sequence is bad when you describe it in details. Also, saying something is unquestionably bad no matter who you are--quite strong words but I am looking forward to seeing what else you write/say about it. Hopefully, I'll be able to pick it up soon.

    I'm not gonna deny that it isn't a flawless game. Trust me, there's a lot of things that disappointed me about the sequel. It's just that I find using a short sequence in the game to show how you think it's poor overall, is kinda ridiculous. I'd agree more on the lack of content and re-playability missing in the sequel.

    @bloodgatts; Ya. We all got a little carried away. Obviously brad was upset about his experience and wanted to share that with those who didn't see it live. It was very painful to watch and I shared what I though. I had no intention to offend but I can totally see how I did.

    @brad; Sorry dude.

    This game really is a disapointment compared to the first one... and the first wasn't all that grand so thats saying something. I used to go buy reviews(kinda still do) but I wanted to see a first hand play and figured since you guys(4pp) are like a median between groups like G4, IGN, and the normal gamer I'd see what you guys thought of it. Its to bad, well time to go back to ME2 and eventually Bioshock 2.

    Lol. I just played the funeral part of yakuza 1 and I was reminded of this. Now that was painful. It took me at least 10 tries to get in. I kept getting caught by security and wasn't sure where to go. Than like 30 tries to escape the damn funeral. The combat system isn't exactly designed very well for tons of guys. This is damn near the first level and I was offered easy like 15 times. Fuck that, I won't do it. Imm beatin this shit on hard.

    I'l agree with you on the stealth and jumping in that there lacklustre but both are hardly needed i lost the stealth bit at the very start and got to the end really easily never died
    The jumping pretty poor but its also predictable its should only take a minuet to know were your gonna land and you hardly need it anyway so i don't see why anyone would complain that much i don't remember any rotating platforms
