As I was browsing the recent submissions to the Experimental Gameplay Project, I stumbled across the game We the Giants. It is a browser-based platforming game and that is all I will say until you play it. It may sound odd but go here to play the game first (it is short) and then read on.

So, you've played the game, right? Good. As you saw at the end of the game, there were a few Twitter links. The advice you input into the game when you perform the sacrifice is uploaded to either this account or the others that it follows. Also, the game world is persistent—the block you sacrificed might help some other player try to reach the star.

Even more interesting is that the persistence of this game has been tracked by the creator, Peter Groeneweg, and he has been uploading videos of what happens on certain days. I'm not quite sure but I presume the game world is reset after a day or, more likely, until the star is reached. The video of December 20th is embedded below:

Even though some are obviously just trying to screw the whole thing up, it is fascinating how most players work together, with nearly no direct communication, to reach the top.

Very interesting game. Kind of like the thing in World of Goo where people are competing to make taller towers. Not exactly the same, but you get the picture.

Damn, I just wasted my block for nothing, I though we had to each the end as in, horizontally and not vertically. Oh well. Hopefully it resets. Cool idea anywho.

Awesome, i liked how they seemed like a civilization of it's own other than humanity which is cruel and twisted into an alien one with peace, co-operation and unity. Always starting off with "We are the giants, not so big but very wise..." is just awesome. Also...i didn't really know what to write so i just wrote

*Beer, then liquor, never been sicker.
Liquor, then beer, you're all clear.*

If anyone is going to sacrifice his giant please write something more wise like this

*We are all brethren under the same god*

Thanks for showing this to me Ben.

I'm actually really intrigued by this game. I ended up having to put my giant in a weird place but I'm surprised I actually enjoyed playing it.

I wonder what it would take to get to the star and what would happen if we did?

Reminds me of that "build a tower" feature from World of Goo too, just as Risos said.

I did know what you really had to do, since some asses covered up the text of telling what you to go for the star.

Interesting game. I definitely like the concept, though I easily see where it could go wrong with people trolling.
