I just want the answer to be yes.

Love that moment, I remember reading the ONM that came out after E3 and hearing about how crazy the crowed went, then seeing the youtube vid years later.

I haven't been excited like that about Zelda since Ocrania of Time, but I hope one day I will again. Nintendo please make that day in 2010.

Let's hope Nintendo surprises us again without the Reggie/Cammie crappy combination.

That clip never fails to send chills down my spine. Oh man.
To answer your question, no, Brad. I don't think anything can top that particular moment in E3 history. That was the peak. They tried to do it with Metroid: Other M last year, but it kind of flopped. Not for me, I was sitting in my chair going wild. Fuck yeah, Metroid.
Too bad TP didn't live up to the hype.
I want to see Nintendo do a Zelda game where you actually do some exploration. Mix Zelda with Shadow of the Colossus. Think of the awesomeness that would bring.

You mean in between riding on a train and "slashing" crap with your stupid pen you don't consider spirit tracks a "great" game?!?!?! You can't insult zelda or call games like "that one" bad!!!

Ah well, how much can they milk out of zelda and mario, I truly wonder..

    Have you read Kotaku, brad?

There's a blogpost where Iwata wishes for a new Zelda to be released by the end of 2010.

Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks just weren't the same kind of Zelda anymore. The last Zelda I played was wind waker and I never really got a chance to play twilight princess. Hopefully Nintendo can get themselves back into gear with the Zelda games.

Brad, I don't think I want to see another Zelda game until the next gen of hardware.

The Wii's hardware has been a massive disappointment for me since it launched, and I just don't think the Wii is capable of rendering the world of Zelda the way that would make you satisfied.

It's as you said in one of the podcasts, when you hear that awesome Zelda theme, the first thing that comes to mind is ADVENTURE!

...but they haven't been doing that. All Zeldas recently seem to have the very bland hub world between Dungeons, and there's no exploring in the world that old Zeldas, especially ones like Link's Awakening and the Oracles on the portables have been able to offer, let alone a console release of Zelda.

I don't think the Zelda we're looking for, will, or should come in this generation. We may have no choice but to hope the next Nintendo handhelds and consoles are simply better spec'ed to allow the dev teams to bring out the Zelda we're truly looking for.

@TemjinZero: A Super Nintendo is capable of rendering a great world for Zelda but the Wii isn't? Come on, you even mention worlds you liked exploring in Zelda included handheld systems. For the majority of games designed today, pure technical power is no longer an issue. It comes down to a conscious design choice (or evidence of Nintendo settling into a certain structure--maybe without realization but I doubt that) and that design choice happens to be something you don't like. So if you are going to place any blame on not liking 3D Zelda games, don't place it on the hardware, place it on the people who actually make the game.

Addressing the blog post, listening to some people in that room--I really hope not just like that. This kind of fawning and fainting over the smallest of information about a game is absolutely absurd to me. It isn't bad to get excited about a game and to have passion for games but I'll never understand the extreme nature of some people.

As soon as I saw this I tried going out to find and buy Twilight Princess on the wii ( since I never played it), and sadly all the stores I checked were either sold out or just didn't carry it................

    what the hell....

    :/

Unless they do something dramatic with the art style, I can see why people might not get these freak-out feelings. There is something to be said about first impressions and Zelda looking like the best thing around. People seem most hyped when this is the case.

That SNES game might not be the best looking thing nowadays, but it sure as hell impressed back in the day. Early hype around games is often tied to those initial wow moments. The old handheld Zelda were great sure, but they never caused this kinda of reaction.

It would just be sad to not see this kind of reaction when the new Zelda is finally shown. I mean this kind of hysteria. It's sad that even average looking games on other console look far better than many Wii games.

Really just saying that graphical prowess seems really tied these moments. I mean, was anyone really flipping out at seeing NSMBWii for the first time? (It was pretty quiet where I was sitting)

    @school

The overworld in 3D Zelda games for the most part has been sparse. Hyrule Field in OoT and TP come to mind, TP being better, but still, relatively plain, and... flat... with not a whole lot of foliage and detail that other games like GTA have been able to do with their populated cities.

I cite the issue being a hardware limitation, because I want to believe this is not what Miyamoto and his crew really envisioned the world of 3D Zelda being. It feels empty. I want to believe that they couldn't make as awesome and as inspiring and an as amazing world as the old Zelda games did because it wasn't possible on the Wii. If TP was what they truly wanted, then yes I agree with you school, Nintendo is taking Zelda in the WRONG DIRECTION.

I can very distinctly remember the majority of my playthrough in Link's Awakening on the GB, both overworld and dungeons, but when you ask about TP or OoT, I remember: "It sure took a while to cross that flat plain to go to the next Dungeon with Epona". I'd like to see the level of detail and effort that made exploring the map in old 2D Zelda transitioned to 3D Zelda in a way that I can derive the same experience I used to get while playing Zelda.
