The trailer for Prince of Persia: Sands of Time has finally made it public and surprisingly, the movie seems likes like it might actually deliver. From where I'm sitting, the movie seems to boast respectable acting and the budget of a major summer blockbuster. Could PoP really be next summer's Transformers? Weigh in, tell us what you think!

I think that it will be okay, but i am sure that the plot will be very predictable. Just like Transformers.

Having never played a PoP game, I can't really say much in how it compares to the game. It does look really good though, you can definatley tell it's the same director of Pirates of the Caribbean, it just has that sort of feel to it.

They already made a Prince of Persia movie. In 2008. It blew.

But really, the movie looks pretty average. I might wait for it to be on DVD so I can rent it.

guy and girl pair have to deliver a really important magic object while being chased by baddies...add special effects. people seem to really like that stuff so i guess you may be right....

Darknezz, I just checked IMDb, and saw nothing for a PoP movie that came out in 2008. This movie, however, has been in development since about that time.

Speaking of the movie, I hope this movie doesn't turn into Transformers. That was god-awful, and ruined my childhood. I have high hopes for this film. It's a Disney movie, so it should be decent writing. Plus it has a big budget.

Another thing about this movie. It has Donnie Darko, Strawberry Fields, Dr. Octopus, and Gandhi. Fucking Gandhi. Hell yeah.

Idk why, but having Donnie Darko as the prince bothers me...
It's odd since he's an amazing actor

Nick, just because Kotaku said that it was going to be a winner, doesn't mean you have to base your opinion off of theirs. :P JK but personally, I think it will be an okay movie, the action is definitely top-notch and as for the comedy, it's sort of bland. I never did play a Prince Of Persia game so maybe I'm the kind of audience that the movie is aiming for.

I think that making a Prince of Persia film at this point in time was kind of inevitable. That being said, I really do like everything like about it. The casting is strong, the production team and direction are experienced. I doubt that this is going to be much of anything like the game, but I think the game had a great premise that can be adapted into a summer blockbuster.

I'm hopeful for it. If it can help blur the lines between film and games, or make the average joe realize that games can have stellar storylines, then gogo Prince of Persia.

@Shiloh, Nezz was being a chach and referring to the 2008 game release of Prince of Persia, as it was a "game that played itself" which I suppose is like a movie, which I suppose is in turn a hilarious joke. Hee hee har har.

Dear Fangwhatever: Watch the trailer before you make a comment like that. I personally don't give two balls about what Kotaku says. The movie looks decent. They saw it. So do i.

lol I was only kidding Nick, I understand that the trailer delivers and shows more potential than any movie based off of a game. And on a side note, you misspelled "opinion" as a category, just being helpful. Peace.

This looks like it should be really good. It's got academy award winner, Sir Ben Kingsley, and Oscar Nominated Actor, Jake Gyllenhaal. Judging by this, the acting should be strong.
I've been following the news about this movie since I first saw stills of Jake in costume, training for the film a while back. He appears to be in great shape and should deliver on what appear to be some action packed scenes.
Overall, between the acting potential, special effects, set design, and costume design it should be at the very least a fun early summer blockbuster. And hopefully it turns out to be a step in the right direction for video game-based movies. So people don't groan immediately when they hear a game's been made into a movie. Since we all know the reputation they've had in the past.

the only thing id hope for in a move like this is that it ties into the first game of the trilogy.

a great movie if it reflects the game well and put it in a great cinematic

a bad movie if it is like a spin off with almost nothing to do with the game accept the sands of time

I don't see anything wrong with it being solely about the sands of time. Not every element of the game would make a good movie. There are certain things that are more visually appealing to an audience. As long as the plot is good and the visuals are on par with the expectations set by the trailer, I can see it being a good film.
However, if it was total departure like Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (which I thought was a good film despite its irrelevance to the Final Fantasy series), then I would strongly agree that it would be a great disappointment to gamers.

This movie will relate about as much to the game as the pirates movies did relate to the ride. That being said i dont beleive a video game based movie can be good if it relates to the game to much. These movies need to tell a new story with in the game using the basic premis of the game.

    Silent hill was "eh" imo.

I think this will be a trilogy like pirates was. Each of the three games have three decent storys that the writers could use. Afterall it does have a sub title in it =P

I think the Warrior Within would be cool, but I couldn't see them doing The Two Thrones. But you never know. We'll see how this one does next year.
