ps1These days you will be spending a fortune tracking down Playstation 1 classics. Even green labeled "Greatest Hits" versions of some games will cost a pretty penny on ebay.

I have complained about Sony's ineptitude to push their library of classics from the greatest console of all time, as the releases had been slow and unimpressive for the first couple of years they had been rolling these out. Well, this year has changed things.

Well, checking out the (North American) Playstation Store today pushed me over the edge. I would go as far as saying (if you don't already have a huge library of these PS1 games), the PS1 classics available are reason enough to own a PSP and possibly a PS3.

Here is a list of good to great games you can purchase for play on your PS3 and PSP. The games are completely transferable between both systems. All of these games are 5.99 unless noted. Note: This is not the full list (full list is 79 games) -- just the ones that stand out for me.

Legacy of Kain: Blood Omen
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Bloody Roar
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (9.99)
Crash Bandicoot 1, 2, and 3
Dino Crisis (they need 2)
Resident Evil 1: Director's Cut (9.99)
Resident Evil 2
Final Fantasy 7 (9.99)
Final Fantasy Tactics (9.99)
Hot Shots 2
Jumping Flash 1 and 2
Medal of Honor 1 and 2 (the good ones)
MediEvil
Metal Gear Solid (9.99)
Oddworld 1 and 2 (9.99)
Rayman 1 and 2
RTypeS and Delta
Pandemonium!
Silent Hill
Spyro 1, 2, and 3 (for the youngsters)
Street Fighter Alpha 2
Suikoden (desperately need 2)
Syphon Filters 1, 2, and 3
Tekken 2 (need 3)
Tomb Raider 1, 2, 3, and 4
Parrappa the Rappa
Um Jammer Lammy
Twisted Metal 2
Warhawk
Wipeout (they need XL)
Wild Arms 1 and 2

If they get Suikoden 2, Vagrant Story, Tomba!, and a few others this list would be superb. I would say that this list is far more complete than any single console list on Virtual Console. With the added bonus of being able to put these on your PSP, I think it is silly that more people are not talking about this.

Brad

P.S. If you have never played Final Fantasy Tactics and refuse to buy it at 9.99, you should die in a fire.

agreed. everytime i've been on psn i've been surprised at the number of great classic games available. already picked up FFVII, MGS, RE2, and FF Tactics on psn though i already own most of these in hard copy.

i've yet to play Silent Hill and a couple other games so i'll be buying those soon as well. this is an excellent way to make classics accessible for very good prices. Suikoden II and FFIX...i'm waiting for you.

I thought you were not big on Tekken 3, Brad. Well at least this list is a pretty solid one for those who wanted to play the classics (Unlike Vensito, since he wants his Final Fantasy collection the hard way)

I wish Xenogears, FF8 and FF9 would get on there already...

Man, there are tons more RPGs too that they could put on the PSN store... >_<

Great list, much improved since last year, im needing my fix of Suikoden 2(can't believe my brother traded that game in back in the day, before i finished it), sure they will get round to putting more great RPG's on the store.

I'm really wanting Tomba! but im worried that it wont be put up, just get that feeling, seeing as Tomba! is in my top 5 games of all time, i would be happy to re-purchase it.

    Pandemonium!

Such an awesome game that it inspired my name. Back in high school I used to smoke up and just do that first level with the awesome music and the awesome watermelon jumping platforming over and over.

I really want to get "Metal Gear Solid","Final Fantasy Tactics",and "Symphony Of The Night" (a friend let me borrow awhile ago but I never got around to finishing it). Money isn't my issue. Time is. Between the games from this year that I'm still playing and the Spring 2010's schedule.........ugh.........these are gonna have to wait.

I'm even more glad I just got a ps3 now lol.
It's really great that they are at least seeing the potential in bringing back old games. Being only 16 and not really getting a full experience with some of the best older games seeing as I was barely 6 when I got my first console, an N64 really made me feel like I missed out, so it's cool that they can bring them back so I can try them now, because those games can be pretty ridiculously priced, and hard to find anyways.
