3553592746_083667e519_bThe highly respected and often unforgiving Edge Magazine has awarded Bayonetta with a perfect 10 out of 10.  This is the 11th perfect score Edge Magazine has ever given.  A score this high from a western magazine is remarkable for a Japanese game this console generation.  The previous perfect scores for Japanese games had been Mario 64, Gran Turismo 1, Ocarina of Time, and Mario Galaxy.

From Edge:

"A thirdperson action game from the same school as Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta has just memorized the best bits and burned down the building, its combination of seamless animation, sensory cues and riotous imagination setting a new standard."

"It's a beautiful and graceful fighting game that lets imagination loose, and winks before slapping Dante, Kratos and every other hero back to the drawing board."

High praise. It sounds like the game is doing exactly what Devil May Cry did so long ago.

I feel I also need to post a correction for Podcast Episode 140: The Turkey Day Show.  On the show, Nick and David brought up a recent episode of the CAGcast and mentioned CheapyD's review of Bayonetta.  There was an error in reporting when it was said that Bayonetta's weapons are specific to levels -- that when she got her weapons (ice skates were specifically mentioned), she only would be able to use them temporarily.

Well, I finally got around to listening to that episode and I am happy to report that Bayonetta fans don't have to worry.  All CheapyD said was that the weapons you pick up off the ground were limited.  This was already a known quantity as this mechanic was in the demo.  He said nothing of the main weapons Bayonetta obtains throughout the game and nothing of "ice skates".

I felt the need to post this correction as I don't want any unwarranted negative hype for what could likely be a financially under-performing game.

And now I want to buy this again.

Sucks I'll only be able to get the PS3 version, but hopefully it's not TOO bad.

...has there still been no comparison of the official Japanese releases of Bayonetta on the 360 and PS3 to see if the rumors that Sega really owned up and spent a lot of effort polishing the PS3 build prior to release?
